how do i know if its the remastered version and not the first release?

If it has TrueHD Dolby, it is the new one.

Also taking the back of the art into consideration, the remastered had both PCM and Dolby True HD. The first pressing only had PCM.

The cover on the remastered one is printed on 'foil'-type paper. The original issue just utilized plain paper.

I think all they sell is the remastered Fifth Element because
the original was bad

I would avoid third party sellers as they may not know

I got this through Amazon about two days ago. everything people listed above is a good way to make sure you get the remastered version.

in addition; if you look at the bottom of the front it has a strip with "hi def blah blah" printed on it and on the remastered background there is a reflective bright silver while the original has a duller gray background strip.

the PQ is pretty good

edit: also if the release date is 2007 it's the remastered one

Yeah man, everybody pretty much covered it.

For the most part, if you go to any really large chain now, they most likely will not have the older version as it has been cycled out through sales and Christmas.

Shiney cover, TrueHD on the back...that's what you are looking for.

Amazon clearly listed (remastered) after the title. No way not to get that one if you have chosen it correctly.

yeah i hadnt checked amazon until now. it does say remastered and it also has the 2006 copy as discontinued by the manufacturer.

Amazon most likely sells only current product, and even if it wasn't re-mastered, they will return it and exchange it for the re.

I got mine a couple years back (older copy) and the pq is awesome.
