Default Speaker help in purchase.

So I'm going speaker shopping monday, and need a little help. Can you point out of this product list, which speakers are good quality and which are known to be avoided?

Unfortunately there are no prices, so don't take price into account. Further more, should I be looking to buy the Hi-Fi speakers or the dedicated Home Cinema speakers?

These will all be paired with an Onkyo 606.

Everythings good in the Hi-Fi speakers (just avoid the TEAC speakers). Everything is good in the cinema speakers (avoid the Yamaha soundbar stuff). This store is a no brainer - whatever you choose, just about, is an absolute winner - whats your budget?

£1000 Great British pounds. Needing complete 5.1, I was looking at front floor standers, rear book shelves and whatever is best in Subs and Centre. Unless I am of course persuaded otherwise.
Thanks for the help so far too! So which would you advise I look at though, Hi fi or Cinema speakers? The Hi fi range do seem to have a better selection.

Look at the Hi-Fi and build a system from there. Some of the same speakers are in the cinema section - B&W, Kef, Monitor Audio, Dali - all excellent brands!!!! Listen to the best ones of each brand - find the sound that you like the best - and then, from your budget - get the speakers that sound the most like your reference (within your budget)!

In my opinion the top 4 are B&W, Monitor Audio, Dali and KEF, find something from one of those.

Sounds like a freakin' awesome store. Wish we had something like that locally here! There's one that's up near my work that only carries Jamo right now (looks like they're phasing out and going with TV's and stands or something) and there's one close by me that I can never seem to get to when its open. Not sure what they carry but I gotta stop by sometime.

Still, a store that carries all that gear to listen to in one place would be fantastic.

I like the DALI's and B&W's best!

Have you considered Totem? If 2-channel audio is part of your consideration, then Totems should add a lot of warmth, depth, presence and soundstage to any system you put together. Their build-quality is second-to-none, they have a comparitively small foot-print and they are aesthetically pleasant to look at (might be a consideration for a significant other).

For the record - YES, I am a Totem fanboy!

No Totems on the menu or I would have recommended them for sure, there's a pull down menu on the side of the store page listing the brands

Also he stated an 1800 dollar budget for a 5.1 (1000GBP, 1800CAD), there's quite a markup overseas, they would probably not be in his range.

Yeah, ain't that the truth. Speakers I was looking at in my price range ended up costing nearly $3000 overseas. I got told they were terrible for that price, but nowt I can do. Got to just cough it up.

Thanks for the recommendations so far too, I may well choose either the B&W's or the Monitor Audio's. See which I can get better quality for in my price, and which I like the looks of too.

So before I go a listening today, I'd like a quick last minute opinion on the set up I'm going to look at.
Front BR6
Front BR5 (not sure to go for BR6 or BR5 yet)
Surround BR2
Centre BRLCR
Sub BRW10

Any of those that scream "I'm terrible, don't buy me?"

+1. That was my assessment as well. B&W are my favorite of the bunch, followed closely by Monitor Audio. I also like some Dali speakers as well.

If you are on a budget at all, give the Monitor Audios a serious listen. The build and sound quality for the Bronze Series speakers are far beyond their price.

A friend of mine is running the full Bronze setup but with BR5's and the BRFX, he absolutely loves it. Hopefully they have lots setup for you to listen to.
