hello my friend a couple of months ago had a lens problem with his ps3 so he sent it to be replaced and not long after his computer got the yellow light of death (i think motherboard failure). then after that he decided if that ps3 was no good so he went for a cheap ps3 from eBay (the warranty had past so could send it back)
well he found a ps3 on eBay was only one problem which was his B-ray drive had stopped working. so he went and purchased it and then when it arrived i changed his defected drive for the new drive which was put into the other ps3. now there is a ribbon cable under the drive and this is the weard part. i put the cable in and powered on the ps3 and the disk would not spin and the disk wouldn't eject or be taken in by the ps3 other than me forcing it in but then wouldn't get into its position BUT the laser moved into place and attempted to read for a disk lens light lights up and everything (there is power because the laser moves back and forward). so after that i changed the ribbon type cable under the drive around and inserted it in that way and the outcome was the total opposite it had lens movement, disk spinning , and ejecting and inserting disks into the ps3 but the lens didn't pop up and try to read the disk nor did the blue light from the lens flash or even come on. and that is where i am stuck as of now right now i can insert and eject games and it doesn't even attempt to read the disks. not even the little circle thing you get in the top corner of your screen when the ps3 is loading or attempting to read disks. it just doesn't do nothing other than spin at high speed. i know it cannot be the lens because he was using it fine no problems and also when the lens doesn't read the disk it stops spinning but this doesn't it spins for hours on end at high speed like its being used. do you think the ribbon cable is broken in any way. how easy are they to damage? hope somone can help me and sorry for the long read but its my problem thanks. |

From my research the actual Blu-ray drive is not replaceble and will only work with that 1 machine. This would be why when you switched the drives it wouldn't work. However, laser replacement is possible.
EDIT: Look at my laser replacement thread (in my signature) and look at the pictures of how I took the actual drive in and out and see if it matches what you did. |
