Default Sony Update For KDL46V4100

Dont know if this been already posted but I got an email from Sony for a system upgrade for my KDL46V4100. "System Software Update Available - Resolves issues related to white sparkles (dots) on the screen, HDMI-CEC input, 1080i 60hz film-based content, intermittent audio and slideshow Butterfly." So I placed an order for it. Talked to a rep from Sony and he said this will solve any problems with white sparkles and all that other stuff. Even though I didnt have any problems with white sparkles and so fourth I decided to get it just in case. Like I said I dont know if anyone else knew about the update so I thought I would post it just in case. If it already has been posted then my apologies.

Talked a lot in detail in AVS forums. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I agree with the term "if it aint broke dont fix it" but if there is an upgrade to make my tv better then I will upgrade it. Besides Sony is sending the upgrade to me free of charge!

I applied the new update to my HD and I have to say it looks even better then before. There doesnt appear to be any judder to the picture due to its only 60hz and not the "famous" 120hz. And if there was any sparkles and clouding as they call it then they aint there anymore! I was very happy with my HD but I am even more happier now with it then ever before. To my eye the update cleaned up the judder that I did experience in certain movie scenes that I watched on Blu Ray and on some HD Comcast movies. Movie scenes are more smooth then they were before I installed the update and I dont think the update was intended for this purpose! So I say thanks a million Sony you have made a great HD tv even better. The weird thing is the update is also for the newer XBR Sony models as well.

I dont know if there is an update for the HD tv you pointed out but the update will shut off the control for HDMI devices in the service menu. No problem just switch it back on. Otherwise the update didnt effect anything else but the pic quality. It to my eye pretty much eliminated motion blurr and the judder effect on Blu Ray movies. The update did what it was meant to do on my tv and more.

Very happy!!!

Is were you got your update from?

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/new...00&news_id=273

Did you download it? Or did they mail it to you? I have the 40W4100. Did it cost anything to have them send it?

Update Your TV
Sony has designed the BRAVIA Televisions software update process to be customer friendly. This software update (version 202r) addresses issues experienced by some customers, including the following:

White dots or sparkles intermittently appear on the TV screen when displaying the menu or playing a DVD.
Problems selecting an HDMI input on a CEC device using the XMB Menu.
Problems resolving the finest detail issue of some 1080i 60hz film-based content (mentioned in a recent PC Magazine article).
Intermittent audio on HDMI Input 4.
Photo Mode issue that may occur when performing slideshow Butterfly - The same picture sometimes continually displays, and the slideshow no longer transitions through the other pictures.
XMB™ sometimes does not display.

This update program is only intended for TVs that meet certain model and serial number requirements.

Decide How You Want to Get the Update
There are two ways to obtain the software update:

Download the Update -
If you decide to download the update, you must have a USB storage device, such as a Sony MicroVault or something similar, in order to transfer the update from your computer to your TV. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. View the list of compatible USB storage devices.
Request the Update be Mailed to You - Contact our customer support staff at 1-800-222-7669 to see if your TV qualifies for the update. If it does, the update will be mailed to you on a USB storage device, along with instructions on how to perform the update.

I personally just called them to get the update through a USB storage device instead of going out and purchasing one then having to download and update it myself...

Hmmm... it is interesting that the Sony 46" XBR6 calls for the upgrade, but not my 46" XBR4. I guess I don't need to worry about it.
