Default HD-DVD paper packed with Blu-ray Planet Earth

I just got Planet Earth in the mail today, and inside of the wrapped case, was an "IMPORTANT NOTICE" print-out. It read:

"This HD DVD disc is manufactured to the highest quality available. It is possible this HD DVD disc was manufactured after your HD DVD disc player. To ensure the best possible viewing experience, you HD DVD disc player may need a firmware or software update. Please consult your hardware manufacturer's website for the latest firmware or software version and, if an upgrade is available, we suggest that you follow its installation instructions. For additional information please go to www.thelookandsoundofperfect.com"

I figured that when they said "HD DVD" they just meant a high definition disc, but that link is for HD-DVD's website. Strange.

Well, it was probably just some snafu from the retailer you ordered it from, since it's a decent bet that their packagers aren't up to date on the format differences. They were probably told that if it's not a regular DVD they need to put that in the box.

HD-DVD had to start issuing those due to Children of Men and some other movies not playing on some players.

I think it was Warner Bros fault. That provide for both formats and probably got their stacks of inserts confused.

Technically..most every Warner BD release is an hd dvd via a port job...so its not really false advertising.

Update: I just got Kingdom of Heaven in the mail, and it had two of these messages, one which was identical (but said BD instead of HD-DVD, of course) and one which was specific to the Panasonic DMP-BD10. So yea, this probably a Warners mix up, but the notice is not exclusive to HD-DVD.
