Talking Fincher and Theron to Create 'Mind Hunter' for HBO

This sounds like a much better update from the last Mind Hunters I saw with LL Cool J and Christian Slater years ago hahaha

Although they’ve never worked together before on a movie, David Fincher and Charlize Theron are teaming up to create a new drama series called Mind Hunter for HBO. The show revolves around the investigation of serial killers (original!) and is based off John Douglas and Mark Olshaker’s book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit. According to Variety, “The book recounts Douglas’ experiences as a top FBI investigator of serial killers and rapists, and the profiling techniques he developed.” I wonder if Douglas goes out to dinner, looks at a guy at another table and thinks, “Yep, that guy’s a rapist.” Or does profiling not work that way?

Scott Buck will write the script, which is a good choice since Buck is an executive producer on Dexter. Theron, Fincher, Buck will executive produce along with Jennifer Orme Erwin who was the one who brought the book to Theron’s attention.

Theron is set to co-star in George Miller’s upcoming Mad Max movie, Fury Road, which is scheduled to begin filming this summer in Australia. Fincher is currently at work on the “Facebook-movie”, The Social Network, which is about the founding of the popular website.

Collider

Mindhunter by John E. Douglas
During his twenty-five year career with the Investigative Support Unit, Special Agent John Douglas became a legendary figure in law enforcement, pursuing some of the most notorious and sadistic serial killers of our time: the man who hunted prostitutes for sport in the woods of Alaska, the Atlanta child murderer, and Seattle's Green River killer, the case that nearly cost Douglas his life. As the model for Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs, Douglas has confronted, interviewed, and studied scores of serial killers and assassins, including Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, and Ed Gein, who dressed himself in his victims' peeled skin. Using his uncanny ability to become both predator and prey, Douglas examines each crime scene, reliving both the killer's and the victim's actions in his mind, creating their profiles, describing their habits, and predicting their next moves. Now, in chilling detail, the legendary Mindhunter takes us behind the scenes of some of his most gruesome, fascinating, and challenging cases -- and into the darkest recesses of our worst nightmares.

Sounds like an utter waste for HBO. I expect shows with a better premise/setting than that.

Serial killers bore you? You say this about the same network who made a show about Mormons in Utah? It's a little too early to judge this project, it sounds like a much better version of everything on CBS.

Anything Fincher does is worth watching and is usually pretty great aside from Panic Room which I thought blew. Might have something to do with how much I hate Jodie Foster though. Anyway, it is HBO so they always get the benefit of the doubt.

Kristen Stewart was her daughter, lol. She's come a long way since than. But come on man, Dwight Yoakam was "the muscle" I am a HUGE fan of Dwight's music but the guy is literally 130lbs soaking wet and 5'6" I know cause I've met him, and my right leg was bigger than him haha. That alone makes the movie worth watching. What do you hate about Jodie, it it her transsexual voice?

haha that is funny that he is that small, I never knew. I may need to watch it again, it has been a long time, like 6 or 7 years and I just can't stand everything about her. Her voice, her face, her acting style, her mannerisms, the whole thing just bothers me haha.

Yeah man, he's tiny, but still a great actor. Sling Blade anybody?

I totally get the Jodie Foster thing, there is just something about her that makes me want to punch babies.

This could be interesting. I read most of Douglas' books back in high school, and still have the books sitting on my shelf near my desk at home. The books tend to repeat themselves a bit, but since this is only based on the first one, I guess that doesn't really matter.

Exactly. Something that's been done countless times. Who cares if it is done a bit better?

Because every movie you have ever seen has been done thousands of times, and every once in a while there comes along something fantastic better than all the others. I'm a huge fan of gangster films of the 30's and 40's but that doesn't mean the Godfather, easily the greatest film of all time should never have been made because it'd be done. There would be no Avatar if they stuck to that formula, as well as none of Nolan's Batman films.
