Charlize Theron is set to become Florence of Arabia. Aside from being positioned similarly on Google Maps, it bears absolutely no resemblance to Lawrence of Arabia. They really should ditch the title.

Variety says the movie is based on a satirical novel by Christopher Buckley. The film casts Theron as a State Department employee who watches her friend marry and then be executed by the prince of a Middle Eastern nation. She then goes on to fight for women's rights in the country, which has yet to be named. If they’re smart, they’ll invent something fictional, as a way to minimize the inevitable death threats.

Let me be the first to say this: it’s about time. The treatment of women in Muslim dominated Middle-Eastern countries is continually glossed over in our desperation to fill gas tanks with cheap liquid gold. Someone ought to say something about it instead of sending over Morgan Spurlock to grin from beneath his mustache while trying to convince us all that “hey these are pretty nice guys”. Many of them aren’t nice, especially not if you’re a woman.

Theron (who seems particularly focused on civil rights issues recently), not only has the balls to star in it, she’s also producing it. Well done. You’ve picked the right issue. Now make it good.

I tend to agree with the guy writing the article. Theron thrives in these kinds of roles
