Thumbs down Grrrrr!!!! Dreamworks Animation - No Love for BD?

Sorry to rant but I'm just pissed that now there are now 2 Dreamworks animated features that DO NOT include the extras from the DVD releases. I mean WTF!? We already pay more for the BDs yet they leave the extra stuff out?!

Here's a couple of examples that the DVD versions got extra stuff.

Yeah, I'm pretty pissed we didn't get the secrets of the furious five extra.

YEAH! Now they're doing it to the Penguins in Madagascar too.

I'm Happy they included the Penguins special from the first movie though in the BD.

I thought I read on Digitalbits that the extra Madagascar 2 film is actually on the Blu-ray...

Yeah, that one kind of bummed me out...

Kinda funny though, although it's not listed in the features on Blu-ray.com, they have the back listed already. https://images.blu-ray.com/movies/covers/3621_back.jpg

Dreamworks does such an excellent job with their animation releases (PQ/AQ), I could care less about the extras or the generic looking disk. In particular, Kung Fu Panda is one of the top tier releases on Blu-ray period with respect to picture quality and sound quality.

I wonder why they didn't include that stuff. Seems odd but maybe there were some copyright issues... I remember the original Bond releases on Laserdisc from CRiterion... they had to be dropped on the following pressings so the originals became collector's items. Wonder if DReamworks had any issues like that?

Why would they have copyright issues on a new release? What you said makes no sense. Criterion licenses films and supplements from other studios. They don't own it.

Dreamworks owns all this stuff - they're not coming into copyright conflicts with themselves.

Maybe you don't but my kids do! they were asking how come we don't have it when I already bought the BD.

I just feel cheated that we have to pay more and you see all these extras on DVD releases. Especially Wal-Mart ones.

Which reminds me. I never checked the Transformers BD but I bough the 2 Disc DVD Special editon AND the regual edition 2 pack which had a extra disc of a digital comic book. I forgot to check if that was included in the BD.

not getting alll the fancies happens way to often on Blu Ray for my money. You would think that if companies wanted to give you optimum video they would do a 50 gig disk and then another 25 gig if there were still features left over.

Good point...that DVD release looks great. I never considered the kid factor and what they expect in BD releases. I wonder if Paramount/DW does that to keep costs down because the BD sales are very small compared to DVD.

Paramount/DW seems to focus on quality for their BD releases and not so much of a focus on the extras and disk art. I at least appreciate the quality form Paramount/DW releases.

On the other hand, Warner seems to focus on the chotchkeys and not so much on picture/audio quality.

I bet in after a few more years the BD releases will contain all the special stuff that is included with DVD's. Get ready to double/triple dip. Come to think of it, I do not remember so many extra goodies with early releases of DVD's. Do you?

Oh Don't get me wrong, Paramaount and DW put out quality BD discs. I just feel cheated when I was telling people before BD got mainstream that it has so much more space to hold all the stuff and better quality vdieo, now it's out and you see extra stuff stripped from the BD release.

Yeah these things didn't come in the early days of DVD. My guess is that they are still trying to get people to buy the DVDs. Which doesn't make sense to me, since they are supposed to be trying to get people to buy BDs not the other way around. thy should put more exclusives on BD. I mean if you walk into Walmart telling yourself that you will only buy the DVD version of a kids animated movie, but then your kid sees the BD version has an extra feature not on the DVD I think they'd push their parents to buy the BD version over the DVD even if it did cost more than the DVD. Disney definitely has that concept down with them releasing the Sleeping Beauty BD with a DVD copy of it included already. They are doing the same with BOLT.
