Question Dreamworks animation still released on Blu-ray??

i know that 50m went to paramount and 100m went to dreamworks (or the other way around) but did dreamworks animation get paid off? if they didnt does that mean we will see dreamworks animation on blu-ray?

either way give it a few months and paramount/dreamworks will return to blu-ray. right now i think that if WB or universal goes blu-ray only hd-dud will be put to rest.

Well since DreamWorks Animation is part of DreamWorks... and Shrek 3 was announced as HD-DVD exclusive... And the press release actually stated they'll be releasing their animated films exclusively on HD-DVD...

Not exactly. DreamWorks Animation is neither a part of Paramount nor DreamWorks SKG.

Correct. Following the acquisition of PDI in 2004, DreamWorks SKG spun off its animation division in November of that year into a separate public company (DWA).

Also per the press release:

Movies Distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment Including Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Animation SKG, DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films to be Released Exclusively in HD DVD

Well if they're actually seperate, wouldn't they have to be bought off too?

Six of one, half a dozen of the other...

Dreamworks Animation SKG is still headed by Jeffrey Katzenberg. So I'm sure that some of the money that Dreamworks SKG received will be used for Dreamworks Animation SKG in their HD-DVD releases, since it is still headed by the same founder(s).

Funky... At any rate, if I were releasing animated films on HD-DVD, I'd be VERY concerned about Color Banding due to the limited bitrates and small disc size.

Even Ice Age on Blu-ray had some problems with this...

I'd think so, but you're not talking about different leadership. And Paramount does have an exclusive deal to distribute all of Dreamwork Animation's titles...so...well...it's exclusive.

Basically, it's the same type of deal as DreamWorks SKG made with Universal Home Video back then. This is why reports said that Paramount was paid $50 million and DreamWorks Animation was paid $100 million. It's because DreamWorks Animation is in fact a public company while DreamWorks SKG is a subsidiary of Paramount.

DreamWorks Animation and Paramount agreed to a 7-year distribution deal.
