Default EXORCIST (1973) Both Vers? Or?

According to a magazine interview with director William Friedkin he has stated he is working on the blu ray version of THE EXORCIST for blu ray Release Fall of 2009.

(it seems he is doing a new print/ new color timing for the film much like what will be hotly debated with the new Blu Ray release of THE FRENCH CONNECTION PLEASE DISCUSS THIS FILM Under it's thread in regards to the new image quality etc.)

But let us forget about the new print/ restoration/ color timing whatever we will call it.... It seems he is only releasing the VERSION YOU'VE NEVER SEEN and no choice of the Original Theatrical cut... I myself woudl love to have the original WB LOGO reinstated for the opening titles of the film. but....

the POLL will be do you want just the VERSION You've Never Seen? a choice on the blu ray disc of the theatrical version and the version you've never seen?

I would guess we'd all want our money's worth, and have a choice. I don't care much for the Version you've never Seen.. I saw it I think it added the faces in the dark and spider walk and I think it was overkill.. nice to have but it would be cool for the choice of beign able to watch either version.

I have the original version on dvd. I haven't seen "The Version You've Never Seen" so I would like both. I will definitely buy this when it comes out no matter which version though.

I would like to see both versions included, but with Warner, I don't have my hopes up.

My god I don't care what version they release as long as it gets released.

It would be nice to get both versions on one disc tho.

I never saw the 2nd version, but when I saw the first one in the original theatrical release, it scared the **** out of me. One of the scariest movies made to that time. Look forward to it being released on Blu.

Personally I would like both with a seamless branching option, but it's not a deal breaker if they only put out the "Version You've Never Seen". I do hope they include "The Fear of God" documentary.

The "Version You've Never Seen" was really good...it shows more info, but, not required info..it would have waaay too scary for its day with the stuff they took out.

Of course everyone if they had a choice would want both versions. Although I do believe that the 25th anniversary is the best presentation of the film, which is essentially the original theatrical version with a few minor tweaks.

Now my ultimate desire is for this to be released with all three versions on a BD-50 disc if possible.

-Original release (remastered) with none of the 1998 modifications (1973)
-25th Anniversary Edition (1998)
-The Version You've Never Seen (2000)

With of course the "The Fear of God" documentary. But If not I'll just hold on to my 25th Anniversary disc.

I want both but either on seperate Blu-rays or seamless branching. I DON'T want the PQ compromised by stuffing both 2 1/2 hour movies on one Blu-ray.

My wish is also for a Burstyn/Blair/Sydow commentary to go with the Friedkin/Blatty one, and the Fear of God documentary.

Please do this film justice Warner. It's only the best horror film you've ever made.

A thing a lot of people seem to be overlooking is that in a couple of years time the BR market will be as over saturated as the DVD market is with directors cuts, ultimate editions, anniversary editions, etc. At the moment its a relatively new technology and we are accepting what we get.

I have no doubt four of five years down the line we'll all be complaining about double and treble dipping again

I have both versions on old ray DVD.

On the "version you've never seen before" edition I was REALLY pissed when they edited down the fabulous scene when actress Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) is on the phone with the operator as she attempts to reach Regan's father in Rome (it's Regan's birthday and he didn't call because "he doesn't give a $hit!").

In the original version of The Exorcist MacNeil emotionally loses her tempter and blasts the operator (lot of cursing) and takes out her anger on her poor innocent assistant. I love that scene - it is absolutely hilarious!!! That's probably why it was removed - it was unintentionally funny. Still, it really should be in the special edition.

I hope we get both versions when the BD comes out (seamless branching please). And I want a spectacular 5.1 surround REMIX in DTS-Master Audio.

Since it will be a Warner BD I doubt they will do a dts Master Audio track we will prob. get DD True HD audio only.

I think having both editions on one disc would be nice but if there had to be only one I'd choose the "Version You've Never Seen": it's the only version of the film I've seen and I love the spider walk/doctor's office sequences (not to mention the creepy demon faces).

The newer version includes the "Spider Walk" scene which is guaranteed to scare the living crap out of you. It comes out of nowhere and gave me nightmares... I was 25 at the time. I would like to see both versions make it to the blu ray, there really is no reason to do otherwise.

Do you guys all realise that the original and each sequel has been released on DVD with EVERY available cut and loads of extras? (all in one package).

It saddens me that the first release on Blu will be bare bones and not include the original cut. I am a HUGE fan of this film, but will not be buying if what is said in the OP is true.

The version you've never seen was creepier than the original.
When the original was released in theaters there were newscasts about people throwing up and fainting. How many movies can make such a claim?
