Default Firmware 3.0, tell us what you want.

everybody vote for cross game chat!

Quote:
After almost 1,000 votes on the first part of our multi-part thread we continue with the next poll in the series. This time around we would like to know which of the following options would enhance your gaming experience and the way you communicate and connect within games the most.

We have a good idea what is going to be the top option here but please still vote for the option you would most like to see by Firmware 3.0 for the PS3. Once we have collected enough votes we will continue with a new poll, again just to reiterate once we have completed all polls we will forward are findings to SCEE with a view to provide them with a community plotted road map for what you the community would like to see changed, added or modified.

So without any further delay:

They did one yesterday to, it was video related.

In-movie XMB™!

Seriously, though, I voted for cross-game invites, but private chat seems to be winning (which is cool too).

In game chat is up there - but I think adding video will make lag unbearable.

But a new redesign of the XMB Bar start up menu. Its so old an archiac. Something in the lines of what XBOX 360 has or better.

Add back the ability to power the PS3 via USB (so someone can make a third party remote) and have a logitech remote finally be able to turn the PS3 on and off.

Sonys job is not to make the ps3 like 360, if you like the NXE go buy a 360.

I didn't say that in a mean way. the internet fails at showing emotions.

I didn't say for Sony to duplicate XBOX interface cause that would be dumbbut please a damn update. Home is a failure and that XMB interface is horrible and old - a lot like Windows 3.1 vs Windows Vista.

Sony is not in the business to make software, but still no excuse for being behind.

Even the Wii makes Sony's interface look childish.

P.S. I already own a XBOX 360

I really want them to allow us to add descriptions and group friends similarly to how we can for demos/games, pictures, videos, etc...

Well thats not a fact that the XMB is horrible, thats an opinion. many people like it the way it is. besides, i think i remember sony saying they have no plans to change the XMB.

I voted for BC of course.

My question is this: After their series of polls and whatnot, if BC wins or comes in 2nd or 3rd, are they SERIOUSLY going to offer that?

And when is 3.0 supposed to be released?

This could make me forgo Ebay for a 60g to play God of War 1 & 2.

Default Bitstreaming audio

Anyone else notice way on the bottom the ability to bitstream HD audio? Is it a possibility then sometime in the future? Hmmm......

I think XMB™ looks way better than NXE and the Wii Channel Menu (which looks nice but sucks to navigate because it requires the Wii Remote Pointer). NXE just looks like a lopsided XMB™ knock-off anyway, and its colors are too busy and distracting. XMB™ looks clean and is far better organized.

I don't agree with full backwards compatibility being a big deal either beacuse it isn't going to make PS3 games any better.

it was the first thing i noticed. I found it odd considering many on this forum have been claiming the HDMI chip the PS3 uses is not able to bitstream HD audio

I'm pretty sure it's just a wish list. A number of those things probably aren't possible.

TTXT subtitle support for mp4 files! And/or some way to stream SRT subtitles for any movie file.
