Default PQ going to be better on the new T2?

I know that the Terminator 2 Skynet Edition BD is now going to use a 50GB disc as compared top the 25GB one of the previous release but I what I am wondering is will the PQ actually be any better? I know the sound is suppossed to be better but now sure about the PQ. Is it remastered or anything? Thanks.

I'm sure that an effort will be made to maximize the video encode and improve the PQ. However, it will be impossible to know just how much of an improvement is being offered until the disc is reviewed and released. Check back to the review section of the site periodically to see when we've had a chance to evaluate the disc and, hopefully, all of your questions will be answered.

Depends on what version your expecting an improvement on. If its the original T2 in the USA then YES.

I am certain that the new Terminator 2 blu-ray release will have a much more improved picture quality over the old MPEG-2 blu-ray.

In fact, let's just put all the cards on the table:
Does any sane studio still use MPEG-2 in 2009, now that everyone (meaning Lionsgate and MGM) has finally figured out how this stuff's supposed to work?

...Oh, those were some wild and woolly frontier days back in the beginning, weren't they?

I have yet to purchase a blu-ray of T2 because of the so-so reviews (I do own it on SD). I will certainly purchase the improved PQ as soon as it is available. And, correct me if I am wrong, But I understand that the previous Blu's have NOT had lossless audio, so a Dolby True HD or DTS Master Audio would also be a welcome addition. As action films go, this is still one of the very best ever made. Gotta Love Arnold.

this has been discussed several times. the PQ will be better to a degree, but not amazingly better due to how the film was originally shot. if you want to read more about the PQ/AQ improvements the thread for the new editions is here:

I believe MGM's recent Silence Of The Lambs release was MPEG-2.

From what I've read, they are not doing a new film restoration/transfer for this. It will be a re-encode with better audio, and different codec (MPEG-2 to AVC). This will offer some improvement, if you own the previous version. If you own the UK version, my guess is that it will look very similar to that.

Right, I heard it is an existing James Cameron-approved transfer just with a higher bit rate encode, dust/fleck removal and lossless audio. Also, I believe Lowry Digital Images is restoring T1 but that's based of a post on another forum which I cannot provide a link for.

True, but that was a catchup title, originally supposed to be released in 2007 and probably mastered at that time. There might be some more of those old encodes coming up -- Amadeus was a similar thing, done to the HD DVD spec (among its other faults) on the video side.

But by and large these new releases will utilize BD's spec much more fully, as Ben has said above.

I have the UK version of T2, which already has better PQ over the original US release. I'd be willing to double-dip but first I want to see exactly how much better the PQ/AQ will be and I'll only get it at a low price point, say 12 USD.

Lion's Gate has used AVC on the majority of their releases since Mid 2007.

T2 will no doubt be better PQ because of AVC and Better PQ because of DTS -MA 6.1.

Why is the audio ONLY 6.1 and not 7.1 surround?

As for the PQ situation, it is the same idea as taking a 72 dpi jpg and converting it in Photoshop to 300 dpi. It will not improve the original 72 dpi jpeg.

One other analogy is to add a liter of water to a liter of Pepsi. Now go on and taste it: the end result will not be two liters of Pepsi.
