As for the PQ situation, it is the same idea as taking a 72 dpi jpg and converting it in Photoshop to 300 dpi. It will not improve the original 72 dpi jpeg.

One other analogy is to add a liter of water to a liter of Pepsi. Now go on and taste it: the end result will not be two liters of Pepsi.
