Entertainment Weekly has compiled a list of the top 25 action movies of the past 25 years. I'm not quite sure I agree with this list at all, but here it is:
1. DIE HARD 2. ALIENS 3. THE MATRIX 4. GLADIATOR 5. SAVING PRIVATE RYAN 6. HARD-BOILED 7. TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY 8. SPEED 9. ROBOCOP 10. CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON 11. THE BOURNE SUPREMACY 12. KILL BILL — VOL. 1 13. SPIDER-MAN 2 14. PREDATOR 15. CASINO ROYALE 16. LETHAL WEAPON 17. THE INCREDIBLES 18. THE PROFESSIONAL 19. KUNG FU HUSTLE 20. THE TERMINATOR 21. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III 22. THE FUGITIVE 23. RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II 24. DESPERADO 25. APOCALYPTO |

Where is The Dark Knight!
![]() ![]() Anyways, I liked Die Hard but I wouldn't put it at one, I think either Spider-man 2 or Terminator 2 belong at the top (for me at least) Other than that minor gripe plus M.I III should never be on a best action movie list, it is a good list ![]() |

The problem is: it's part drama, part action, part thriller, part tragedy, part film-noir, part police procedural. The film is a masterpiece. But it's so varied. It can't... just be an action film. It's an insult to the rest of it: to say that. With Casino Royale (2006), the action is more prominent and dominant than in TDK. Bond is defined by his action. He is after all... a man of action. Is he not? (Well, what about Batman. Some might say. Batman is a detective, a scientist, and an inventor as well. Like the film.) Saving Private Ryan (1998)??? Again the action is the most distinctive thing about it: not a performance. Like Ledger or Eckhart. Yes... Hanks is great, but what we remember (the most) is how Spielberg changed combat, not the drama. The action made the film known (as a classic). ...Thus, it is it's action, that it's defined. So, it can be on the list. Again I'm not E.W., but in this case. They didn't error by including it. Ryan is a War film. The war made it successful, not the talk.
