It's sacrilege I'm sure, but I actually prefer the remake.

Thumbs up

I emailed Second Sight a while back regarding the specs for this UK Blu-Ray release, and I received a reply today.
It seems this release was worth the wait, because besides having all the content from the US disc it even throws 3 bonus interviews (about 40 minutes in total) that were previously included on the UK "Seriously Ultimate Edition" DVD release:

Video: 1080P (aspect ratio wasn't mentioned; it's probably the same transfer as the US disc, seeing as the audio options are the same)
Audio: 5.1 DTS, 2.0 PCM and original mono

Bonus Features:
-Commentary with director Tobe Hooper, cinematographer Daniel Pearl
and actor Gunnar Hansen
-Commentary with actors Marilyn Burns,
Paul A. Partain, Allen Danziger and
art director Robert A. Burns
-'Off The Hook' - an interview with Teri McMinn
-Interview with Production Manager Ron Bozman
-'The Shocking Truth' documentary
-A tour of the TCSM house with Gunnar Hansen
-'Shocking Truth' outtakes
-'Flesh Wounds' documentary
-Interview with director Tobe Hooper
-Interview with writer Kim Henkel
-Outtakes and deleted scenes
-Trailers, TV and radio spots
-Bloopers
-Stills gallery

Default This blu-ray is not as good as i thought

This is one of my fav horror films of all time and i have got loads of different versions on dvd and vhs. I bought this on blu-ray from the states when it was out a while ago.. and i was really disappointed to see that the pic quality is not that good.. You would of thought being 1080p it would look stunning but it isnt, for a 70's film(and shot in 16mm) the pic is still really very grainy.. So i really would stick with the 3 disc ultimate edition on dvd and just let ur blu-ray player upscale..

So you are teling me that the movie looks better on DVD then on the US Blu-ray ? It is hard for me to believe this. I have the US Blu-ray and I think it looks pretty good and better than the US Ultimate edition DVD, and I don't think the UK Ultimate edition on DVD looks any better.

The DVD might have less grain, but that is because it is less sharper and detailed.
Depends on what you prefer.

I think it comes down to personal choice and what equipment ppl have.. I have a 1080p projector so maybe beacuse my pic is so big i can see a lot of grain, but if someone as a 42inch lcd for expl he pic may look better as its on a smaller screen...

Its a 1970's film its got to be quite hard for them to make the film look 100% stunning( all depending on what the film was shot in at the time) I bet something like the evil dead when its realesed might look a little shabby as the age of the film.....

You are FOOLING Yourself if you expect this UK release to look "better". That is just the way the film looks. Your going to have to learn to accept it. The movie is supposed to look gritty and grainy.

I've got the US-disc, and watch it with a 1080p projector as well and was very impressed. Looks very filmlike with completely untouched grainy stock - very nice. Didn't expect to be this impressed but really love that disc. Just depends on whether you like a grainy look, I guess. Thought it was a great upgrade.

For anyone who received this release from HMV, I was wondering if your BD came sealed?
Mine didn't, and worse of all they put a sticker on the cover that managed to stick to the paper cover...
