Arrow Warner Bros talking Many Batman Sequels

From /film:

Quote:
While the sequel to The Dark Knight is just in the beginning stages of development, Warner Bros is already looking much further down the line. During today’s Time Warner earnings call, CEO Jeff Bewkes compared the Batman series to the Harry Potter film franchise, saying that they hope to release a long line of sequels.

We look at Harry Potter. It’s fantastic to have franchises that last that long. We want to do that with Batman and Superman and perhaps Sherlock Holmes. The sequels are as good, with new characters added, as were the originals. That wasn’t the case in the years ago. Warners has more tentpoles as an on-going strategy taht very much lifts its distribution and performance. We think that’s going to hold up our slate in the 2009 - 2010 period. We’ve got four more big tentpoles coming this year.”

I kinda get the impression that if Christopher Nolan does a third Batman film, it will probably be his last. He seems like a filmmaker that wants to move on to his own passion projects, and while Warner Bros has been very patient with him in regards to a Dark Knight sequel, the studio/company is clearly looking much further down the line. Warner Bros wants to make a lot more Batman movies? I know, this is a pretty obvious story, but it’s the first time that Time Warner/Warner Bros has said publicly that they are looking beyond the next film.

I know Zack Snyder has expressed interest in filming an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, and even got Frank Miller’s blessing at Comic Con last year. If Nolan isn’t interested in making a fourth Batman film, I would love to see Warner Bros take the leap and do the alternative future story with Snyder in the director’s seat. That way you could give the A-team (cast and crew) behind the Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Batman 3 a break and still make another Batman flick. Sounds like a much better idea than possibility tanting the franchise with a Justice League movie featuring a recast younger Bruce Wayne.

I don't want them to kill the sereis by doing to many sequals. Nolan's gonna do a third one and I think that'll be good for a few years.

for f%#ks sake.....of course WB will try and milk this franchise for everything it's worth. thankfully most of the cast will likely depart when nolan does...

after losing burton as director, keaton knew when to quit. i'm sure bale will do the same if nolan leaves.

Well actually, Burton was not asked back by Warners, they didn't want him for a third film for some odd reason.

good call, you're right. i edited my statement to only say keaton, as i know he was asked to reprise the character but chose to pursue other roles because he didn't like the direction new director joel was taking the franchise. bravo keaton, if only your instincts had led you away from jack frost too

That's why Warner's scares me, they have a track record of destroying franchises.

Bale is only signed for three films as of now, so the next would be his last.

Like everyone else is saying, I think 1 more will be it for Nolan and the current cast. And I think that will be the end of this current trilogy. I'm sure WB wouldn't mind making more under the current regime but I just don't see it happening. I wouldn't mind seeing maybe a few graphic novel-to-movie adaptations somewhere down the line as well.

Strange thing though is how Burton is (at least credited) as producer on Batman Forever... so he must have been involved someway

Seeing as how The Dark Knight Returns is one of my favorite stories... this doesn't bug me =P. Miller seems to do comics very faithfully.

We just need the right casting.

Anyone with a brain knew that more Batman movies would be made after the current trilogy by Bale and Nolan. I have no problem with that on its own. What I have a problem with is that every director wants to re-tell the origin story the first chance they get, which bogs down the story. There are hundreds of incredible Batman stories that have nothing to do with his origin or Robin's origin!

I like the mask on this Batman. Bale's mask seems painfully tight, making the lower half of his face look bloated.

Of course there will be a Dark Knight sequel. They're gonna milk this cow.

I wouldn't mind a studio milking a franchise to death like this as long as they make sure the movies are top notch, i can see myself watching batman dispatch his rouge gallery villains in a different movie

Zack Snyder looks like a good choice but i don't know if the current cast would want to return with anyone other than Nolan & tbh i believe a slight reboot to the franchise with a quick 20/30 min backstory to establish a new wayne/batman wouldn't be bad & then go on to doing other villains from what's already been done or bring back people that were badly done & redo them faithfully

I would expect nothing less from WB , but if the current cast and crew do truely move on to other projects, it will be hard to top Batman Begins, TDK, and a potential third by Nolan. Huge shoes to fill. Of course I said that years ago with Burton and his Batman/Batman Returns.

Of course. Just look at how many versions of Batman they made over the decades. For instance, the Batman serials they ran at the theatres in the 40s and 50s.

They did that with Superman too.

OH GOD NO!!!!!
DON'T DO IT YOU MONEY GRUBBING #%&#&$#%^#&#&%!!!!!

Nolan's third should be the last batman for atleast 10 years!
Leave well enough alone!

Now if you want to make a justice league movie in 5-10 years from now, go ahead and include batman if u wish, but as long as its not the batman from the Nolan-verse. He belongs there, leave him there.

AND NO ROBIN!
