Default Sony Soundbar HTCT100

I recently purchased the HTCT100 sony soundbar and subwoofer and i was wondering for the best sound if i should use PCM or the dolby digital setting. The display panel on the soundbar will say 2.0 on PCM and 5.1 on the dolby digital setting. Both sound good but want to know the best setting. I can adjust the output from my bdps350 to either PCM or dolby digital. Keep in mind the soundbar is technically 3.1 also. Thanks guys!

You can only get 2.0 Uncompressed PCM through optical with your current setup.

Default Always powered on ?

I ordered this system 3 weeks ago and yet waiting delivery from Sony Canada-there seems to be a shortage in Canada?!? (SUCKS)

I am planning on hooking all my components (HDMI) to the receiver than 1 HDMI out to the TV (as recommended). However, one question comes to mind. Does the unit have to be always powered on to pass through video (only) signal? One scenario would be that I’d like to (sometimes) play a DVD for my 1 year old but use TV speakers only.

Can that be done with the setup described above?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it's possible to do HDMI pass-through while off. I can't do it on my Onkyo 805 or my old Onkyo HTR-550.

I have my PS3 connected to this system through HDMI. The video settings on the PS3 are set to Linear PCM. When I watch a Blu-ray with a TrueHD soundtrack, the receiver shows just 2.0 ch. audio. Is that normal? Should I be getting 5.1? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

You can probably use an HDMI splitter in reverse. Monoprice makes a 2 in, 1 out splitter for like $20.

Go...

DVD player->HDMI splitter->receiver
->TV

Sorry if my diagram stinks but let me know if you don't understand.

It will allow you to send the signal to either the TV or the receiver.
