The acoustics of a tile floor are going to be bad regardless if the sub is downward firing or not. It would be best to put the sub on some kind of riser, but the rest of the room itself will also need treatments.

My sub (Klipsch Sub-12) is on a terrazzo floor, just wondering if I'd benefit from a riser which everyone seems to be using now.

I wasn't so sold on the benefits of one until I built one and tried it out. It's definitely worth it. My house doesn't shake any more. Now I just get nice, clean bass. Even if you don't want to go to the trouble of building your own, you should at least check into the GRAMMA or Subdude.

I use circular non-skid feet I picked up at Home Depot, they work just fine. Try putting a small carpet under it to see if there's any difference in sound - there probably won't be. With the massive port on the SUB-12, most of your output is from the port, anyway. I have mine positioned parallel to a wall, with nothing behind the port for about eight feet. Prodigious, clean bass, but I can't push it that hard - the cabinet isn't that solid, a big downside to the SUB-12. You can feel it pulse, and that's lost and wasted energy. |

True, but the problem isn't with sliding, it's with room vibration, it's a smaller room two closets that seems to suck up all the bass. As loud as the Sub 12 is, stick your head in the closet and it's 5 times louder, and it rattles the s*** out of everything in the closets till everything is falling off the shelves.
A riser seems like a easy enough DYI project, and it couldn't hurt to try. If I like the change it makes I might pick up a GRAMMA or Subdude. |

If it sounds louder in the closet, move the sub in there and listen outside the closet. Maybe??? or maybe I'm high?? ![]() |

This is not going to give you good results. While it may be louder in the closet, I'm willing to bet alot of definition and clarity would be lost if he moved his sub in there.

A subwoofer placed in the corner of a room may increase the subwoofer's output – causing the sub to sound louder. Try placing your subwoofer in a corner and see how it sounds. but it depend on your floor space, a corner might not be a viable option for your subwoofer if it's too far from your listening
