im doing the entire room in curtains and im looking for ideas of how to install them...so far ive done nails with mason string and im not really happy with the results...it came out ok but im looking for other ideas...curtain rod will be the last resort but not sure those will work as i need to overlap the ends to create a seamless wall of curtains, top to bottom...ive also considered sewing on velcro and somehow attaching the other side to the wall...only problem with this is i dont want to destroy the wall in case i ever have to take it down...maybe put up a board of some sort and attach the velcro to that?...any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated

I've seen these used in offices that have a glass wall. You can either ceiling or wall mount them.

![]() ![]() In the end it's your room, so you can and will do what you like, but I'm pretty sure most around here would agree that a nicely painted wall looks plenty "theater" like and the bonus is you would already be done ![]() Bill |

This is exactly what I do to cover the cut-out between my living room and dining room when watching movies. Finishing nails painted to match the wall and grey blackout curtains with 1/2 inch grommets (about 14" apart). Works like a charm and looks good. When not in use I throw 'em in the closet and you never notice the finishing nails. ![]() |

I think my paint looks like a theater room (check out my HT gallery). I also have curtains on the front and rear wall hung with standard curtain rods. I have done more to my room since last posted to my room but I still have to put up posters alternated with acoustic panels. I think the accents of the room will give it the feel more than the wall (imagine flower wallpaper underneath a perfectly deco'd HT room, heh, it would still look like a HT). Above my chair rails I considered hanging fabric and hiding wires and foam underneath but realized I had a false ceiling to give me wiring advantages. So, I hope I provided some other thoughts to your application.

in no way do i want anyone to think that i was tying to put down a painted room...ive seen many on here that come out great and i do wish is was an option for me....my problem is hiding all the wires and making the windows disappear....but converting a bedroom has become a challenge and the curtains have solved all my problems

In that case I think the Velcro idea is a good one. I had blackouts on a bedroom sliding glass door that was secured by huge Velcro strips. They just stuck to the fabric by sticky glue. I am sure you can find that in the fabric section. For your application it could be cool to use that, bunch it up every inch or so and sew that part to make that hanging waved theater look.
Whatever you decide I can't wait to see the result! |

This wouldn't be great for hiding wires because it would be closed off on the top and the bottom, but I've considered using two wall-length strips of molding or trim that are around two inches or so thick and attach the curtains to the wall.
It's hard to describe, but my idea is to pleat the fabric every 8 or 10 inches across the wall and put a piece of trim at the top near the ceiling and down at the bottom next to the baseboard. Could give you a pretty neat, finished movie theater feel. ![]() -TK Last edited by TKNice; 12-01-2010 at 01:07 AM. |
