Default Ps3 Audio Codecs

I have a USA PS3 and it currently only shows DD 5.1 & DTS 5.1. I have read that the PS3 does DD TrueHD & DTS HD MA. I do not have any DD TrueHD movies to check out my player caperbilities (only 2 available I believe) but I have many movies with DTS HD MA and in my machine they come up as DTS multichannel with a 1.5 mbs codec. How or what Firmware upgrade will give me the DTS HD MA & of course the DD TrueHD. I am sure others are keen to know this. Oh, by the way, an excellant machine for Blu ray movies.

The PS3 does not have DTS-HD MA. It is rumored that Sony will provide firmware upgrades to add this upscaling, and 1080p/24fps. All other audio codecs can be decoded by the PS3 and sent to your receiver as a PCM signal via HDMI. If you wait for the new line of HDMI 1.3 A/V receivers, the PS3 can send the audio to the receiver to decode all the advanced audio codecs.

I am new to the forum, and have been looking around to find an answer to my question. I have come across a few questions/answers, but it isn't all to clear to me.

Q: I realize that the PS3 does not decode DTS-HD Master Audio, but would it allow for a receiver that does support DTS-HD Master Audio to do the decoding if connected via HDMI 1.3a (or would both devices have to support it)?

For now, it doesn't. It may require a firmware update to let the PS3 pass through the undecoded DTS HDMA bitstream to a receiver that has DTS HDMA decoding feature.
