Default Appleseed Ex Machina

Just out of curiosity, what did you all think of the story and the presentation, because I'm thinking of getting it but only as eye candy and I dont want to spend $$$ and be disappointed

It's a very pretty movie but I think Spirits Within is better eye candy.

It's not really eye candy when compared to animations like Cars, Ratatouille, and Shrek the Third.

It looks different. Appleseed Ex Machina has an almost cell-shaded look, which makes it look like a fluid cartoon.

Storywise, it's just okay. John Woo does the action scenes well, though.

I really like the movie. I wish they went with a more realistic look. Like Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. Because of the style the movie the PQ leaves a lot to be desire.

I really love it, I've watched it three or four times since I bought it. This might not sound like much, but when you're buying around 2 Blu-rays a week...it becomes easy to not have even seen some of the movies you own, which I know a lot of us know.

So yeah, Appleseed is pretty, stylish, and entertaining. It's not a very complicated or original story, but the characters are interesting. I actually like the dub on it too, and usually I'm adamantly against a dub of any kind, but in this situation, I actually prefer it.

For me, it comes with my top reccomendation, and I bought it full price on the day it came out.

I'm against dubbed versions too but make exception for animated movies which in a way are all dubbed in the first place.

I think it looks gorgeous. The story was just okay even from my perspective as a fan of anime in general and the first movie in particular. The action sequences certainly won't dissapoint but I figure the plot will be a little hard to follow if you have no previous experience with the Appleseed storyline.

For eye candy purposes I consider it a must-buy for two reasons - 1) the CGI is beautiful and in a different way from the more cartoony (that's not derogatory BTW) style of Pixar or the full-on realism of Final Fantasy and 2) Deunan Knute herself qualifies as eye candy (I wish I saw more girls that could fill out motorcycle leathers the way she does IRL when I'm out riding my crotch rockets lol - such an otaku thing to say ).

Pretty much the latest thread I could find. I watched Collector's Edition Appleseed SD DVD for the first time this past weekend and liked it so I thought to go ahead and try this BD via Netflix. Longer story short, I liked it as well and the quality was very good. I may buy it if I find a good price.

I really enjoyed the story and action in this movie. The PQ is strong, too. It's a great overall blu-ray imo.

You should pay close attention to any film. Why else watch them?

NO. I mean, compare this movie's look with the look of Resident Evil: Degeneration. Despite the fact that this movie's characters are all cell-shaded and RE's characters are more realistically modelled, RE's characters have that "dead" look that really disturbs me.... meanwhile, Appleseed's characters look much better.

I think Ex Machina looks awesome on Blu-ray. It's a pretty fun movie as well. Now they just need to release Appleseed on BD.
