Default Which Burner Should I Buy?

Hi, I am in the market for a Blu-Ray Burner (Would have liked a BD & HD Writer, but dont think they exist!)

I would like a writer that will write to non cartridge based disks that I can play in my PS3... If anyone can offer me any advice I would really appreciate it as it is quite a minefield!

Many Thanks

I bought the LG GGW-H20L Blu-ray burner through Amazon which says it can read HD-DVD but not write. The drive installed easily on a 32bit Vista machine using the SATA cabling and has worked fine for me so far. Why would you want to write to an HD-DVD, you actually have media for that purpose available? I have never really looked for HD-DVD media so maybe it is really cheap but BD-Rs are under $4 and have about 30% more capacity not to mention they are a supported technology.

Hi,

thanks for the reply, I wanted HD capability as well because the media (15GB) is only £1 compared to BD which is £4 for 25GB but I must go the BD route as I want them to play on my PS3

I didn't think very many HD DVD writers actually made it to market. Of those that did, the results weren't very good.

In any case, the GGW-H20L is a one of the better BD writers currently available. It can be found for pretty cheap and reads HD DVD movies.

nearing the end of the war, there are only a few test units for those review labs to do evaluation. but the resulting burn is terrible.

unlike blu-ray, which from day one had been design as bd-re before bd-rom
