Default Pioneer Pro 520HD CRT Projection Question...Anybody??

I have had this tv for about 6 years now give or take and have a pioneer elite dvd player to go along with it. The picture from the elite dvd player looks fantastic and could be mistaken for HD at times even though its only 480p. I tried hooking up a sony blu ray player via the component out and I barely noticed much difference between the blu ray player and my elite dvd player. My question is could the VGA input on my tv possibly be used to hook up to the blu ray player and would that give me a better picture than using the component out from the blu ray player. I realize that the blu ray players do not have a VGA out, but is there any adapters that could be used and would it be worth it. Any input would be greatly appreciated, THANKS.

i think that your blu ray player may only be outputing 480p through component. You see blu ray players are setup up so that full 1080p can only be reached through hdmi, i think its to prevent coppywrite or something of the sort (dont ask me how). There are vga to hdmi http://www.brilliantstore.com/hdmi_c..._cpa_1387.html but im not sure if this will allow you to outupt in full hd since both ends are not hdmi. What resolution is your tv, it doesnt sound like it can even output 1080p anyway so this could be your best option, also another thing you need to make sure you do is go into the menu of the blu ray player and make sure it is outputting at the resolution of your tv, out of the box the player will only play 480p. If that is the case you should be able to use component and get the best picture that your tv can produce.

the native resolution of the TV is 1080i. I did make sure that the player was outputting in 1080i. So unless the VGA input will look better, I dont see the need to hook a blu ray player to that TV.

can you check the resolution being displayed on your tv to make sure that the tv is outputting 1080i and not just the player
