well im looking to get a tv 52" or bigger(depends on the price i can get a 58" or so)
i currently have a 56" samsung dlp 1080i/720p that will get replaced i watch a LOT of sports & play ps3 online with the tv ![]() 45% sports 45% ps3 10% movies whats the best screen for me to get? my viewing distance is about 8 or so feet. the 56" has a good fit for the living foom but its a dlp. would 52" going to be too "small"? is 5" worth the extra 1000-1500 in extra $$$? and i dont know if i should go plasma or lcd. i know their pros/cons but im still torn between the 2 and ANY help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -Don |

52" may be a little on the small side, but certainly within the 1.5-2X range for eight feet(48"-64").
The question of LCD vs. Plasma comes down to room conditions. To put it bluntly, Plasmas have better picture quality overall and deeper blacks, however LCD's are brighter and have more pop to their image. What this means is, if your room has a significant amount of ambient light from large windows or such, then you may be best suited to get an lcd. On the other hand, if you room has some control of lighting conditions, a plasma will give you a better picture. Issues related to use are all but moot at this point with plasmas being much less susceptible to IR once they've been properly calibrated. |

my room has a 3 frame sliding glass door about 7 feet to the left(east side) of where we sit YET i rarely open the blinds as the sun goes thru the day it goes south(no wondows) and to the west where we have 8 small windows with crank handles so not a lot of sun comes in after 11am or so(im in south florida) is there a differewnce from plasma to lcd that will sway my buying one way or another being that the amount of light in my room wont make a difference? is plasma going to look better for sports than a 120hz lcd? i just dont want to make the wrong decision and realize it AFTER i hook everything up |

Providing you're talking about a decent plasma (Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer, Hitachi, LG) and not an in house brand and we're excluding the top of the line Samsung 950 LED and Sony XBR8 then the answer is emphatically yes, the plasma's will look better for sports.
Most 120Hz LCD's measure around 600/1080 for motion resolution. Most plasma's measure around 900/1080 for motion resolution. That means when there's action on the screen more of it is being resolved. Quote:
I'd highly recommend the PDP-5020FD (50") or PDP-6020FD (60") from Pioneer while they're still available. There is no other TV on the market like it. |

I definitely agree. I've never owned such a great display. There is truly nothing like it except the Elites. Plus, in the next coming weeks there should be some really great prices since Pioneer is ending PDP production.

If you go to any of the European websites you'll see they offer Kuro LCD's in 32", 37" and 46" sizes as well. No doubt they pale in comparison to their Kuro plasma brothers. If you go that route, your eyes will thank you forever. It's as low as $3,800 now from some sites and used to be $6,000. |

It makes me cry.
The local dealer has the Elite PRO-115FD for $7,499. It's pathetic how few dealers offer sub-MSRP pricing like all the online US dealers. It's cheaper to take the 29% credit card exchange AND pay 13% additional tax at the border!!!! $3,500 for the PDP-6020FD = CDN$4,515 after credit card screws you then + 13% Ontario tax = $5,101 which is over $1,000 cheaper than Best Buy Canada or Future Shop has it for. |

But what I've outlined already there would show the costs of driving to US and as you can see you save $1,000 on the PDP-6020 by doing it. I'm only 45 minutes away from Buffalo though, for most people in Canada they're not quite as lucky though, Canada's bigger than the US don't forget. |

Consider the new plasmas from Panasonic arriving in a couple months. There is a 56" coming and from what I can tell the new screens can be brightened up to that of a LCD.
