Wiring them is pretty easy. Assuming you use a subwoofer, you can split the RCA single ended subwoofer pre-out from your receiver/prepro using a "Y" splitter, and then wire one output to your subwoofer, and the other to the ButtKicker amp. Then, you just wire speaker cable from the amp to each of the ButtKicker transducers, pretty much like you are hooking up speakers. The amps can drive 4 transducers each, which you would need to wire in parallel (the amp only has one output). If you buy ButtKicker's "quick connect package", it includes all the wiring you need as well as a "Quick Select Box" which properly splits the amp output to 4 different outputs and allows you to select which outputs are active. I would highly recommend getting this (it's about $100). They also have a package that includes the "quick connect package", amp, and a wireless link kit.
Once you install the transducers to your seating, you will want to isolate your seating on rubber isolators which most ButtKicker retailers carry. It shouldn't be enough to shake the floor in any case. If you have two sofas, you are going to need at least two transducers, if not four, with one or two installed in each of the seating. How many transducers are included in the kit? Just a tip-- you may want to consider buying the ButtKicker gear from a site that can give you more guidance than Amazon does. I got my gear from Roman @ Ultimate Home Entertainment-- he is completely reliable, gives great advice/customer service, and has excellent prices. His website is www.rtheaters.com and his ButtKicker page is http://www.rtheaters.com/buttkicker/ Ken Lerch at www.stargatecinema.com is also great to work with. His ButtKicker page is here: http://www.stargatecinema.com/Buttki...cts-c-373.html |

I was looking at them on amazon and the wireless setup looks great but has a 300W amp vice the original buttkicker with 2100W amp. The size of the two units are a huge difference 15pounds vice 45 pounds. I may go with the wireless since I would add it to my driving cockpit for games, and shift it to the couch when watching Blu's.

I am interested in getting this as well. I have an Onkyo 605, which means I believe I have only 1 "out" which currently runs to my subwoofer. I have the following questions....
1) If I understand this correctly, I could get the quick connect package, along with the amp and wireless link kit and it would provide me with the Y splitter that I would connect to the Onkyo subwoofer out, and I would then run one wire to the subwoofer and another one to the amp from the Y splitter on the back of my receiver? I have an older Sony subwoofer that only has a single audio cable input and no left or right lines to run in. I was wondering if I could use this subwoofer, or I would need to upgrade? 2) If so, should the amp be close to the subwooofer (which is in between my 2 chairs in the corner) or closer to the receiver? 3) Also, with the wiring provided, how long are the cable runs? Could anyone answer my questions? I really want to invest in these, but I am unsure if I have a receiver that I could use. The Amplifier Hookup Diagram does make it look like I can do this, but with my older subwoofer, I am not sure and I want to be before purchasing. Last edited by Fors*; 02-09-2009 at 04:40 PM. |

Your gallery pics do not show what kind of seating you have. If you have more traditional heavy overstuffed type living seating and you really like to feel the bass...... Butt Kickers are probably the best option for you. However, if you have some seating designed for HT use and are just really looking for something to supplement the feeling you get from a sub..... you might want to look at some Aura Bass Shakers as well. I got a pair of them and a decent amp for about 1/3 of what a proper Butt Kicker set up would be for a pair. |

I have the traditional overstuffed living seating (there are no pictures of the furniture as I was moving it around the day I took the pictures and wasn't sure where it would end up.) If I want to really feel the base, do you recommend also getting an extra Buttkicker Mounting Kit for the other couch leg? I appreciate the quick responses by the way, as I am starting to get pretty psyched and think I am going to pull the trigger on these....it seems to really add a whole new dimension to the HT experience! ![]() Last edited by Fors*; 02-10-2009 at 12:23 PM. No need for anyone to reply. I couldn't resist and pulled the trigger. I found out the Y splitter is for you to connect the seperate audio cables for your subwoofer and the amplifier. So, I figured I would get a second 25' audio cable and run it to the amplifier so it can be next to the couch and subwoofer. I got the cable for only $2.47 with shipping from Monoprice....dang what a price! Now all I have to do is come up with a good reason for the wife as to why I needed to buy this....mmmm how about I play the daughter card and tell her that our 4 year old would love it for her Disney movies?

I have a mini-LFE and I love it. Anyone who is interested in one of these though, you will need a least one for each chair, or the regular LFE for a couch. I wish mine was more powerful, I got the mini because I already had an extra amp that was the right wattage. In order to have it turned up enough to feel it, sometimes in super load explosions I can feel it clipping a bit.
I think as long as you but some rubber isloators under the couch, your neighbors won't notice it at all. |
