Default Tax Return = Upgrade?

So I got my tax info for last year, and despite having been in grade 12 for about half the year and never working full time, I still have about $700 due back to me... so I was thinking I would upgrade my sub.

I currently have the Klipsch RW-12d and have been eyeing up the RSW-10d and RT-10d. I can sell my RW-12d for about $400-$500 and easily be able to afford the RSW-10d (about $840) and a bunch of blu's... or I could go to the RT-10d and go a bit over-budget (about $1500) but I can't try it out anywhere before I buy it.

So basically I have about $1000-$1200 to spend on a new sub and I'm looking for recommendations between the two... other brands will be considered but living in Canada makes buying online far too pricey.

In Canada you can get SVS subs through Sonic Boom Audio. Get the best sub you can from them for the money and don't look back. They're among the very best out there, and to my knowledge they're probably the best sub you can get that's readily available in Canada. Good luck.

Look at SVS, HSU, AV123, eD, Epik, etc.

I am sure with the shipping they will still perform better than what you are looking at...

Instead of wasting your money on a very expensive sub, buy two of them. You can get two great subs for $500-$600 each from Jason's recommendations. Two subs are preferred to one sub 100% of the time.

I think that either two of the Outlaw Audio LMF1 plus 12" subs able to go to18hz for $549 each
http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/lfm1plus.html

or two of the Outlaw Audio LMF 1EX 12 subs that can go down to 16hz for $649 each
http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/lfmEX.html

These would be far better than either of the ones you were looking to purchase.

Well I was considering dual subs, but I really don't have the floor space to sacrifice... and primaz those are some pretty sweet recommendations and I would probably jump on it if the shipping/duties wouldn't tack on another $200+

I hate to sound ungrateful, because I'm not, but is there any chance anyone could recommend a non-internet based brand to check out? I was looking at velodyne but for the money (about 2x what i would pay for nearly equivalent klipsch) it's not worth it.

I second Big Daddy's post for Paradigm and Def Tech subs, and I also second the suggestion for 2 subs, if you are somehow able to pull it off.

I just experimented and typed in a friends address in Stony Creek, Ontario, Canada ordering a 12" sub and they charge zero for shipping!

thanks for the tip Primaz... I'll email them to confirm (so I don't get charged shipping without knowing it)

EDIT: Unfortunately it looks like that's an error due to the sub being out of stock... the the 10 inch compact sub has a shipping charge of $60 to my address.

Elemental Designs is working on new subwoofer designs and styles. Even Aramis agrees they look fantastic. Now he wants one. eD also has free shipping to Canada. They also can do custom subs for you too!

I was planning to get a new surround system with my tax refund, but then I had a wreck before Christmas so now it will have to go for a new car.

I was looking at a sub on one of the sites that was a 15" i think with 2 6" flared ports in the front, front firing... and then I saw a similar one drawn in cad on the eD site, and it will likely be much cheaper... I'm gonna have to wait to see production photos but it should be interesting

Going off your description I think you're talking about the Epik Conquest. It has a 18'' driver and a very large enclosure.

lol.

I do though, it's true. My one biggest hangup with them was their look. Of course, I also want an Onkyo 805/806, some new Def Tech BP's, and a Panny plasma.

(Ask me how much of that I'll actually be able to get?)

Seriously though I'd wait out eD's new designs and jump on one of those if it was me. I even really like my sub and I'm still saying that.

At that rate, you might as well add the Pioneer Kuro Elite 60" instead of the Panny, a Gotham sub, and some separates Aramis!
