Some pretty serious storage. They haven't produced a machine yet. Lets hope they get it right the first time out.

I have not read the release, but this will probably not come down in price, it will be a specialty product for IT (backup etc.). There is a major demand for massive data backup, and this is the market they are probably trying to tap.

The trend is being able to record a couple weeks of 24/7 programming. I saw one unannounced design that had something like 5 tuners and 2TB HDD.
On a side note, I'm pushing manufacturers that include a HDD to allow ability to make managed copy of a movie while it plays, and later be able to stream that copy over the home network to the HDTV. |

1TB hard drive may sound like a lot, but this is High Def. A 1TB HDTV DVR should be equivalent to a 100GB SDTV DVR in recording time.
A bluray recorder is to copy the program that is stored on the DVR to a disc media. BD-R drives are probably not fast enough to burn movies on the fly. A DVR equiped blu-ray recorder also alows you to watch your movies before you record them to disc. This way you don't waste discs on shows you don't like. |
