I was just wondering, If I hooked my laptop up to a receiver that decodes trueHD, will I be able to achieve 5.1 trueHD surround sound. I do have a blu-ray drive and HDMI, and my specs are as follows....
AMD Turion 64 X2 2.4 GHZ ATI Mobility HD2600 2.5 GB RAM Thanks, Phil |

You'll need a player that will output via HDMI, such as PowerDVD8. This outputs HDMI audio in PCM, so the player decodes it and sends it to the reciecer. It will come up as 'PCM MultiChannel' depending on your amp.
Also make sure you audio settings in Control Panel setup to output at the highest rate your amp can take. I use PowerDVD8 and Onkyo 605 and the video signal goes through the amp to the 42" tv. When playing the blu-ray, right click the screen and go through the options to find the HDMI out option. It can also play the core track, so DTS or DD will appear on your amp. |
