Does anyone have the Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish etc. version of Inglourious Basterds?
Is it true that there is an option on the Continental European version that allows you to play the film with English audio and retain all the proper burned in date and location captions (i.e. properly placed within the frame and in the same attractive font seen in cinemas)? Do you then lose the burned in date and location captions if you watch the film in a language other than English? If so then what do the player generated date and location captions look like, when watching the film in a language other than English? If the above is true then how does it work? Is it done via seamless branching? The UK, US and Australian version has burned in English subtitles for all the non-English dialogue and the date and location titles (as well as BD-Live functionality and an extra game, both which are missing on the Continental European version I believe?). On a related note I've also noticed that the swastikas have been removed from the covers of the French and German Blu-rays. I was curious about this because when I watched the German trailer the swastikas were present in abundance! Does the law in France and Germany not allow the depiction of Swastikas on artwork but allows them to be depicted in films? I'm asking about this because I'm genuinely interested in the cultural differences that are at play here and I hope I'm not offending anyone by asking. ![]() |

FYI: I live in Belgium, and I have bought the German Blu-ray of Inglourious Basterds. Just because it's a slightly extended version (about 50 seconds longer
![]() I also preferred this over the UK version, because that apparently has the burnt-in subtitles. My French, German and English is good enough for me to be able to watch the movie without any subtitles (apart from that sentence or two in Italian ![]() The (German) disc has 6 subtitle tracks. If you select the default one (5/6), you get Captions that indeed perfectly mimic the actual title sequences and subtitles for the non-English language parts (although the yellow is a bit too bright, compared to the original subtitles). Subtitle Tracks: 1) ENG - All dialogue subtitled in English, no pretty title sequences, all subtitles in white at the bottom of the screen 2) DEU - All dialogue subtitled in German, no pretty title sequences, all subtitles in white at the bottom of the screen 3) TUR - All dialogue subtitled in Turkish, no pretty title sequences, all subtitles in white at the bottom of the screen 4) DEU - All non-German dialogue subtitled in German, no pretty title sequences, all subtitles in white at the bottom of the screen 5) ENG - "Subtitles" matching/mimicing the original version of the movie, with pretty title sequences and yellow subtitling of the non-English parts. 6) DEU - Title sequences and in-betweens in German, all of these are white subtitles at the bottom of the screen. Also, the French parts are subtitled in German, but the German and English are not. ( ![]() Note that this also means, that if you select NO subtitles, there will be no title sequences, only a black screen. edit: Oh and, as far as I know, the depiction of Nazi symbols is forbidden in Germany, unless it is of historic importance. Of course, they have not touched the actual film. Last edited by EagleEye; 02-02-2010 at 11:06 AM. |
