Default My Walmart Blu-Awareness Experience

So I'm in customer service at my local walmart returning my recently picked up copy of Batman Begins (case didn't seal, latch missing, got a new one all's good now), when a woman walks up with two blu-rays. One was Traitor and I didn't get a good look at the other. She says, and I quote:

"I need to return these. I didn't know that I need a blu-ray CD player to play these. I just have a regular movie CD player."

COME ON!!
The cases are clearly blue
The cases clearly say BLU-RAY DISC on the top
and if I'm not mistaken, don't the backs say "only compatible with blu-ray high definition players" or something to that effect?

Is blu-ray awareness really that low?
I would like to think its not, and that this is just an isolated Ignorance Case.

Did you accept the return? I would not, since you are only allowed to swap open for the same.

LOL...yeah....OK.

Anyway, I think after 10 years of DVD on the shelves people who aren't up to date on tech stuff probably just make the assumption that it's a normal DVD. I was always very careful about getting the widescreen version of whatever movie I bought, but still walked out with a couple full-screen versions if I didn't pay close enough attention.

More likely she was careless, and likely if she didn't notice the price bump obviously she either charged it and price was irrelevant, or she could afford it.

The owner of my company, who is a millionaire, calls DVDs "CD's" all the time. Did I mention that my company installs high end home theaters?
So its not just Walmart shoppers.

My guess is, it's somebody that truly and honestly doesn't care very much about home theater, has no idea what Blu-ray is, has a probably busy work life and home life so doesn't watch too much TV to see ads for it. Probably picked the movies up on a whim thinking they were special editions of the movies since they were in this cool new blue case. Got home and realized they didn't work once they spent a little bit more time looking at it.

I beg to differ. If you go to a store that has products for 1.99 each, and another store that has them for .99 each, and they are the EXACT same product, who is smarter, the one that spends 1.99 or the one that spends .99? I'd love to see how you justify saying it's the one that spends 1.99.

well the store that is selling it for .99 probably has no customer service and or treats their employees like crap and has a high turnover rate on employees. the other store tha sells the same product at a higher price might not be a huge chain but rather a local store that pays their employees better treats their customers better. the better store at checkout the clerk would know enough to ask the person if they had a blu ray player, he or she would probably complete the transaction by saying please or thank you rather than trying to get away from the customer as fast as possible.
