Default Buying an Amp

Hello There. I am looking in to buying a power amplifier on a budget. I am looking on Ebay for used and have been looking primarily at Adcom amplifiers. With my setup, see below, I have been looking for something in the range of 100 watts into 8ohms by 3-5 channels. I just want to power my front speakers but if I find a nice 5 channel for a good price, will definitely go for that. With my setup, will I notice a difference between my receiver's amp and a separate, or because the speakers have a higher impendance, will it not make as big a difference? What is the minimum power I should be looking at? I have seen a nice Adcom that is 60wpc. Would that be good. Thanks for your help and I blame this site and everyone on it for my serious case of upgraditis.

Well, LOL, I came across a deal I just couldn't pass up. I got an Adcom GFA-7605 125x5 for a little more than $600 brand new. I didn't want to spend that much but I couldn't resist.

For the space, the Emotiva is just too big. I would love that, but I found this Adcom, it has excellent reveiws, and is brand new for the same price.

Adcom is nice. Remember that power isn't everything. The quality of power driving your speakers is what really makes them sound great. For example, I would put that Adcom at 60 wpc up against any entry level Sony, Yamaha, Onkyo, etc., at 100 wpc and the Adcom would most likely beat them all in terms of sound quality in a normal sized room.

Of course an Adcom @ 125 X 5 is definitely better! If you have speakers with higher impedence, that Adcom will most likely sound much better than your receiver's amp.

Yeah, I am hoping so especially since I put a lot of money into this now. I am starting to watch concert Blu-rays and I am really hoping this makes a huge difference and beefs up the quality of my speaker's sound. This is an amp I can keep for a long long time.

Thumbs up Outlaw Audio has sales now

I think I'd get a new amp and for $699 you can get their 7 channel 75 watt per channel amp http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/7075.html or for $999 you can get their 7 channel by 125 watt amp.

You the MAN now! I LOVE Concert BD's and they are my fave BD's to buy. And that Adcom will indeed last you a long time. Super, super choice my friend! Now go and sit back and enjoy those Concert BD's!

Great AMP indeed and as well! I'm planning on buying a 2-channel amp within the next year. Just bought a new turntable, so I have to start saving again!

I experimented between the Rotel RB-985 and the Parasound HCA-855a and I liked the Parasound better. I think the rear volume controls made a huge difference, I didn't have to turn the receiver up as much with the Parasound. Very clear and detailed!

Yes that is one disadvantage with Emotiva...even with the 3 channel amp I have, it is huge. But the advantage of it being huge is it runs cool...you can even stack componets on top of it.

You should be able to get something very reasonable on Audiogon.

Funny that you say that because I already had. LOL. I found an excellently reviewed Acurus A100x3 that is given lots of praise.

Good choice on the Adcom. I've always liked their amps.

BTW, anyone know what the GFA in the model stands for? Google it, I wonder if it's really true.
