Default Earth: The Biography & The Universe - Worth Buying?

I've got sealed copies of these at home and after reading mixed reviews on each, am debating whether to commit or not.

Any owners or renters out there have any feedback?

Thanks!

I love them both. PQ is outstanding. Shows are fascinating. Not sure why there are "mixed" reviews. I am proud to own them both (along with GANGES, PLANET EARTH, GALAPAGOS, WILD CHINA).

Are you questioning the content of the material or the AQ/PQ? As far content The Universe is incredibly informative, one of my favorite shows. Unfortunately the PQ/AQ are subpar considering it's only 1080i & Dolby Digital 2.0 respectively, however for a documentary is does suffice.

The reviews are mixed because like any title, opinions will vary! Sometimes these documentaries let me down and just dont work or get dull/repetitive. And, moreso, I'll never watch them more than once so a rental will suffice. Planet Earth thus far is the ONLY one of these that I have watched again and continue to watch over and over. Until something trumps Planet Earth, it will be the "Go To" pretty scenery & demo title.

The others, like the ones you mentioned need more than just a few pretty scenes to get me to buy. I say rent first if at all possible.

I also ordered Season 1 of the Universe, look's fantastic. It's right up there with my other 2 favorite, Earth & Galapagos. If you haven't seen Galapagos, it's another one that is just stunning on BD. I saw Wild China over the summer on HD TV, must be quite something on BD, I will probably get it real soon.

I have seen both Planet Earth and Galapagos and enjoyed Galapagos a lot more than Planet Earth. The PQ was superior and had no grain. I find the story of Galapagos more intriguing too.

I thought the Universe series had a 4:3 ratio and 1080i output?
