Thumbs up Proud of my Mom and Dad

My mom just called me and said at their house they just bought a 54" Panasonic Plasma and a Blu-ray player. I'm so proud of them. I'm buying my dad his favorite movie for Christmas(The Hunt For Red October) and probably get my mom a movie also.

I've tried getting my parents to buy a Blu-ray player but they have no interest, and they've made it clear they don't want me to buy them a player either. They have nice Sony LCDs but rarely watch anything but cable so they don't think they'd use it enough. They didn't buy get their first DVD player until 2001, and that was a free player that came with their big screen TV, so they definitely aren't early adapters.

My dad was one of the first in our family to adopt DVD when that first came out. I was wondering what was taking so long for him to buy a Blu-ray player. My wife and I were right about to get them one but thought they might now want it yet. Then my mom called me today and told me the good news.

The only thing my parents use their DVD player for is my mom's exercise DVD... and I had a hard time getting her to get that DVD to replace the VHS tape she'd been using for years.

That's pretty similar to the only thing my mom uses the DVD player for. I got my dad It's a Wonderful Life on DVD for Christmas this year because every Christmas eve he wants to watch it and he's been using the VHS for years and I finally got sick of it.

I have the same problem, I go to my moms and its like traveling to 2001/2002 5mbps, Pentium 4, tube tv's everywhere, vhs/ a pioneer dvd player I gave her just to update lol.

Her main room has a viewing distance of about 16 feet and she's got a 27'' sony its almost hard to watch tv there.

I doubt that my parents would own a DVD player yet if I hadn't bought them one.

I showcased Star Trek 2009 for mine when they were here visiting. Hopefully it'll plant a seed.

Awesome! I'm always trying to get everyone I know to jump on board. My parents just bought theirs (Sony BDP-S350) about a week ago. I let them borrow a few of my PQ staples: Iron Man, Planet Earth, and Speed Racer. They were definitely ing

Cool! I know what you mean...My parents still have the dvd / vhs combo player i bought them for christmas years ago. There tv is finally kicking the bucket..My dad said he was going to ride it out until it wouldnt work anymore but my mom finally threw the fit because it was flickering and pretty much unwatchable...There going to best buy and hh greg this week and getting a hdtv finally!!! I'm going to get them a blu-ray player for christmas (my dad was kinda into the idea of getting a ps3 which surprised me) so now we can watch blus here and there instead of them always coming here.

They gave me the go to put them on my cell phone plan finally and i got them both cell phones and there learning technology is good lol.

They have way more money than me...but they dont mind not having up to date stuff...which is probably why they have more money than me lol.

Anyways....Congrats!!! its always a good feeling when you get your family into Blu & you can share the love
