Trying to figure out hookups?

I really confused, & sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I'm old school and totally new to these new A/V hookups.

I'm trying to figure out how to hook up a new Samsung BD-P2500 Bluray player and a new Samsung PN50A650 Plasma TV to an older Onkyo HT-R520 home theater reciever.

I was going to go Reciever using digital optical in to Bluray digital optical out then Bluray HDMI out to TV HDMI in. Will this work? Is there any other cable I need? What would be the best way of doing this setup?

I've been reading and searching this all day, & it just keeps getting more confusing & frustrating the more I read. So I thought I would ask here.
