Default Blu-ray, HD-DVD and Standard DVD Transfer Rate

How does Blu-ray compare to HD-DVD and DVD in terms of data transfer rate? (how fast computers can get info off it)

BTW: My previous post was meant to be a new thread, but I clicked the wrong button.

No problem. Thanks for starting a new thread for this topic. I'll delete the info regarding this question in the other thread and reopen it in case anyone else has anything to add to that discussion.

I believe HD-DVD is about the same as BR, i.e. 36MBps.

WOW, so Blu-ray's transfer rate is almost 4x as much as a normal DVD?

How will Xbox 2 compete considering the size and transfer rate diff.?

XBox could well use a 16x dvd player. Which would then have a transfer rate 4 times higher than Blu-Ray. Or just a 4x dricve that would then be equivelent to BR.

2x Blu-Ray players are already in development/developed, with 4x players in development I remember reading a few months back. It's feasible the PS3 may use a 2x Blu-Ray drive (72Mbps) I guess!? :?:

I sure hope so, or otherwise, Sony is in trouble. Especially if the Xbox 360 gets something like a 16x drive.

72 MB/s already seems insignificant compared to 177.6 MB/s.

And if it's 1x, then the transfer rate would be even slower than for the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube!

I take it that this would be pretty bad, considering all the games run off the disc and do not get installed.
