Default Blu-ray sales stats - is this true?

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/33413/Blu-...t-to-downloads

I thought things were going better than that!

Read carefully and you'll note that they were very careful to say that "High Def disc sales only sold..." rather than "Blu-Ray".

They manipulated the data by counting from the start of HD DVD's launch to make things look worse.

In short, they are being manipulative BS artists, pretty much the same as everyone else declaring downloads are "winning". Yeah, winning so much that several online servers have closed down because nobody uses them.

Good - I was worried there - I really hate people with agendas publishing this sort of BS.

Also I noticed they said within the first 24 months - conveniently missing out the past 12 months of sales since the format war finished and sales really started to take off!

Same old misinformation and manipulated data BS put out by the download fanboys to sway away as many of the uninformed as they can from Blu-ray.

"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

Just another attempt by motivated parties to play with the numbers. I would ignore much of the blogs and pontificating news articles about Blu-ray sales as many of them are still hurt their "chosen" format did not win the HD format war.

They really have to stretch particularly far to make it sound like downloads are taking over. Even as far as lying with statistics goes.

Meanwhile, I'm noticing more and more people that I know getting into Blu-rays. I'm not the only one around with a Blu-ray collection anymore.

It's really not even worth following this kind of news right now. It's not going to shake out until the economy recovers, which does not seem imminent. The only reliable customers out there right now are the high end users, who aren't likely to settle for download quality as it stands right now.

What he said! Lol even though I feel horrible that I haven't bought any blu's recently or at all this year, it is mostly due to that fact that I just moved in to my new house so I am figuring out my finances with that first before I start throwing money elsewhere. But very soon when I get my BB credit down to a reasonable number I will start picking up many blu's.

anytime an article starts out like this

A new report from consumer knowledge site Reevoo has claimed that Blu-ray has not seen significant sales rises as a result of either the demise of Toshiba’s HD-DVD or the drop in Blu-ray hardware prices – and it’s saying that direct downloads have stolen the missing piece of the pie.
usually its an opinion

“When DVD came in, you could almost see the video shelving shrink before your eyes in Blockbuster and HMV. The same hasn't happened with Blu-ray.”
No, instead they have been using that multi-dimensional technology that allows them to expand floor space, and pack in a bunch of Blu-ray shelves, without changing the outside dimensions of the store.

The Blu-ray shelf space has quadrupled at my local retailers since the demise of HD DVD. Half of that expanded into HD DVD territory, but it has doubled again on its own. And someone tell me what they're throwing away if their DVD space hasn't shrunk?

I LOVE how they're only using data from the format war and a couple months later...

Seriously, WTF is with them?

Actually, they aren't using data post-format war at all. The numbers they quoted came from a report which called the first two years of "High Def disc sales" as 2006 and 2007. Meaning there wasn't a single post-war sale counted.

Wow, thanks, now I'm even more awed XD

The same thing is happening here. Many, if not all, the stores near me have quadrupled their BD shelving space and that BD shelving also seems to grow on a daily basis.

As much as I would like to agree with your statement I do find some fault. But your first part does touch on my point. I am a high end lover of everything that is high def but I am spending nothing at this time. Both my wife and I are out of work. I think the numbers will really cool in the coming months as jobs continue to dry up. To many politicians looking out for themselves instead of the people that voted them in.

I think you missed the two points I think he was making (or at least that I would make)

but before I start good luck at finding a new job

1) that if you have cut back on BDs because of hard times, don't you think that there are others that cut back on DVDs because of hard times. In theory someone that invested early on in BD (and since it is only 2 years old any one with BD is an early adopter) is most likely someone that takes movies and movie watching more seriously (i.e. higher up in their priorities)

2) The article used old BD numbers and talked about how low they are, then talked about decrease in disk sales and then implied that DL is on its way (almost as if lost disk sales where going DL). If someone does not have $ for BD then why would they have $ for DL? (i.e. anyone that has $ and wants to change from DVD is more likely to go BD then DL where all you get is lesser then DVD quality)
