Default Time for towers

I finally bought my receiver now I need my front tower speakers. I'm going to shop around and actually listen to them before I purchase. My budget is $1000 total and I'm willing to come up a little what models should I check out? Thanks

Bravo! I'm glad to hear you will audition several speakers before buying them! That is the absolute correct way to go about it. While you're auditioning them, please make sure you add my favorite $1000/pair towers, the Monitor Audio Silver Series RS6's to your list. The sound detail and build quality far exceed the price point.

Here's some reviews and info on these well made speakers:

http://www.stereophile.com/floorloud...rs/306monitor/

http://www.hometheatermag.com/floorl...s/1205monitor/

http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/produ...oduct=4&area=5

Personally, I think they're some of the best tower speakers you can get for $1,000 a pair or less today. They certain sound like they could be triple that price. It's a shame more people haven't given them a try.

Quad 21L, Totems, Paradigm, Kef, and JMLab 7 series. You should check these out if you can.

Definitive Technology. I fell in love with their BP series. Really full sound, and the higher models have integrated subwoofers. Definitely worth a listen along with the other recommendations.

I had the same budget when I asked a couple months ago.

Here is the thread and the suggestions I got then.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=74489

From those suggestions, I decided on going with the Swan Diva 6.1s. Incredible reviews of the speakers coupled with great looks. The only downside is that for the most part, they are ID only. You can try them in your home for 30 days, but you would have to pay the shipping if you disliked them. I haven't bought a pair yet because the factory making the speakers was upgrading, which pushed all of the orders behind. I think the end of March is when they should be back in stock. Just thought I'd share!

I entered the HT world with a better than average HTiB from Onkyo. So nothing spectacular at the moment. I plan on getting the 6.1's first, then I'll get the UMC-1 and UPA-7 combo from Emotiva, and finally the matching C3 center.

Because I live in an apartment, the 12" powered sub is more than enough to fill my TV room (and not annoy the neighbors). I do plan on getting a SVS cylinder sub in the future though. A lot of options in the area of surrounds and subs will open up once I'm able to have a dedicated home theater in my own house. Until then, the most bang for my buck will be with Swans and Emotiva as I find them very appealing aesthetically and functionally.

v.2 etc describes the version of the speaker. The most recent version is 6. Therefore v.2 is a fairly old version. Doesn't necessarily mean they are not good but I would not buy speakers unless I could listen to them first. Never know if they were ridden hard and put away wet.

Energy speakers are nice, you can prolly find a deal and get the front 3 about $1000-$1200 depending on what you want. I was looking at the CF-50's and the CC-10 for just under $1K.

Swan Speakers are supposed to be nice too. never heard them tho.

I'll tell you what. If Aperions sound half as good as they look, consider me sold. A user review said they blew his previous B&W 600 series away. The 30 day return policy doesn't hurt either.

Another one to consider is Axiom.

My father has these great speakers and if your in the states then your dollar goes further here. I had them hooked up here for a couple of weeks to warm them up for him while he was away
Paradigm or PSB's are good as well

I wouldn't recommend the CF towers. They sound too bright to me. I prefer the more natural sounding old Energy C-series (see my signature file and gallery). There are some fantastic bargains online for the C-300/C-500 towers. If you can still find them. But the avsform energy speaker thread seems to be indicating that the C-C100s and C-C50 centers are no where to be found for a timbre matched center channel. However a C-100 or C-200 bookshelf would make a good center although you have to buy them in pairs and you only need one for a front center unless you want to use the other one for a back center too to make a 6.1 system. The C-50s, C-100s, and C-R100s all make excellent surround speakers. They should still be available online but are going fast from what I hear. You should be able to get together an old C-series system for less than half the price of the CF or new C-series.

Another perhaps even better alternative, would be to wait and buy the RC series towers when their prices get cut for quick sale.. It's going to happen if not already. The RC series according to avsform is being phased out too. So there should be some bargains for the terrific sounding RC-series.
