Default Converting HDMI to Component, what problems?

If i had a source outputting HDMI, and I had to convert it to component, either via receiver or adapter, in order to take it to an older plug, would I run into any problems, like via copy protection?

I may be wrong as I have not reserched it... but, I believe HDCP would give you a hard time and downconvert BD's to 1080i or possible even 480p/i.

What are you trying to do?? We can try to help!

Checking the viability of a used projector with component in, with all my stuff being HDMI. I can convert it but fearing issues with blu-ray playback.

I believe you can only achieve 1080i, but someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Would 720P be downconverted to 480P if the device was capable of 720P/1080i?

There are some converters that are known (and highly sought after) for their ability to "strip" HDCP signals from HDMI and convert to component at full resolution. The licensing rules for HDCP specifically prohibit such devices, however.

Using most adapters or your receiver, you should get a simple message telling you that your display device is not "protected" and no commercial Blu-ray will play. You can, of course, simply use the component video outputs of your Blu-ray player to get 1080i HD output -- at least for a few years until the ICT flag starts being used.
