Default dlptv @ 1080p

It has come to my attention that digital signal processing AKA dlp is a new technology that holds much promise for high resolution, high contrast ratio yet cheaper tv sets. Recently many leading consumer electronics like mitsubishi, samsung, toshiba etc have announced dlp sets with 1080p as standard resolution that will be sold starting this summer. Best thing is that prices I've are below 5k mark and sometimes close to 3k mark for 50" set.
But they also seem bulky and though not as thick as say crt screen they do seem to have considerable space at the back and their weight at least from the specs I've seen is mostly above 100lbs+. This is just one deal on the internet I found for 61" 1080p dlp with 10000:1 contrast ration and it certainly seems intriguing 8) . http://www.radarcity.com/product?prod_id=8241&refer=6
Does anyone have these sets and can you share your experiences?

The 61" Samsung you linked to makes the pricing of these 1080p babies seem within reach. When I can get a nice 65" 1080p Mits for $2500 then I'll consider upgrading my 1080i TV, not before. As it is my set is only a couple of years old... thankfully it's got DVI.

There will be lots of rollouts during the summer of dlp 1080p sets as I've said before but unfortunatelly still none of them accept 1080p input :? .

Eek, I forgot about them not accepting 1080p input. I have no interest in them at all then until that changes.

Why is it sets with 1080p do not accept 1080p? I find that confusing. :|

I am not sure, I don't know really. It seems frustrating though but I've heard something about wiring not being developed enough yet to handle such bandwidth . My guess is that handling 1080p is why some manufacturers want to adopt cell processor in hdtv's just like ps3.

Apparantly, (according to a respected Uk games mag), Tioshiba will start including the CELL chip in their tvs in 2006 as they were a company involved in developing the chip. Odd when you think Sony and Toshiba are rivals over HD-DVD/Blu-Ray. Perhaps the Cell cjip will be able to perform the same SD to 1080p conversions that the 'Realta' chip does in Denon's top of the range dvd player. You know, the one based around the $100,000 chip used for realtime upconversion for tv companies in the States.

I don't know about "realta" but yes I've heard about cell processor/chip being used for future tv sets though again I am not sure of the tangible benefits though I know that that cell processor is the next big thing and could supposedly handle anything you throw at it . I hope it means 1080p input and better picture quality obviously. It's not that surprising that sony and toshiba are on this together. For one, these are big companies with different departments. In some ways they work together and sometimes they are competitors because they all want to make money and better themselves.

Sony have said that the PS3 will be able to upsample dvds to 1080p. I would assume in real time. Which is basically what the Denon unit does, though only to 1080i. I'm sure the Realta chip calculates 1 Teraflop. So if the PS3 can manage over 2 Teraflops, perhaps it will be feasible to convert dvds to output 1080p.

Hey , I don't know about this but it says it might accept 1080p

Mitsubishi is also pushing full steam ahead into the 1080p world with Texas Instruments' new 1920x1080 chip in all nine of the rear-projection DLP models. Company representatives at the press gathering were making a huge deal of the move to 1080p. One rep claimed that the sets would accept 1080p from a high-definition tuner, but there are currently no tuners that will provide a true 1080p output. That's because there are no broadcasts in 1080p; in fact, there is no significant 1080p consumer source material of any kind—and none on the horizon. Furthermore, an HDMI connection, at present, will not carry 1080p/60; the required bandwidth is too great. (Ironically, DVI will carry 1080p/60, but most consumer electronics manufacturers are phasing out DVI in favor of HDMI.)
