Default Building A Collection

I've already used the search function, and I did find an answer to part of my question. I've been a member here for four months, but I find myself seriously ADDICTED to buying blu-rays. I have a modest collection so far. It's about four months old too.

I have a couple of questions to the other new members of this site. Whenever I am surfing amazon, and I find a movie on sale, or a new release, I immediately check the reviews on here. The first thing I check? Picture and sound quality. The movie itself can suck balls, and I won't care too much. If I can get a sub-par movie (like I don't know, Max Payne) with excellent picture and sound quality, then I buy it. I will always shell out the dough for a beautiful picture and clear high definition audio.

So the first question is: What is the determining factor in purchasing a blu-ray?

Second question: Are you the type of consumer that has to buy as much blu as possible, and to hell with the audio and picture quality? I know some movies have horrible quality like crash, terminator 2, and the first couple of SAW movies. But I already own these on DVD, and I can't see myself purchasing them just to add these titles to my blu collection. It's the same thing with the Ocean's Thirteen movie. The picture and audio was a huge disappointment and I don't want to spend 50 dollars on the boxset, which is a weak transfer.

So thank you for reading.

welcome to blu's clues

since you are starting the collection recently
try ebay, amazon, and sometimes bluray.com trading zone

amazon is amazing i got the bluray movies of spiderman3 and diehard 1 for 3.99 yes three dollars and nintynine cents

sometime u will get a very good deal
regarding the abit lower quality terminator 2 is re-re-releasing most of the movies are re-releasing with higher PQand AQ
always read the reviews and also read the forums
some movies its very tempted to get
its ok to get tempted and evn to buy in my point of view
down the road u can trade or sell it
good luck and have fun

Well if you are really interested in PQ then you should check out the Blu-ray Nature, it's a BBC production with what I consider the standard for looking at image quality at Blu-ray resolution. However if you don't like a nature type show it might not work for you. I can't say much about the sound since I don't have it set up for myself yet, but I could watch it in silence and be happy.

Kind of curious, what denomination do you use to light your cigars?

For me, the deciding factor has to be replay value. Personally, I won't buy a blu-ray unless I will view it multiple times. Luckily for me, the type of movies I enjoy have had a history of good transfer and high PQ/AQ.

There are movies I call "must-haves" such as TDK, Iron man, Kill Bill series and then movies that are personal favorites for me...Kung Fu Hustle, Boondock Saints and Rounders (out in April)

Price is also a factor, i'll never pay full price on a blu-ray.

Buying a Blu-ray for PQ/AQ first is like buying a car because you like the paint-job and the way it sounds.

The movie always comes first, then the AQ (because I buy a lot of Concert BD's) and last the PQ. For me the supplements don't even enter into the equation as I rarely watch any of them.

Well if you're like me and don't have a lot of money I'd say buy only the Blus that you know you'll enjoy viewing several times. The Dark Night and the POTC Trilogy to me are must owns!

I buy movies I want to have (see), some might be more because of PQ/AQ and "let's try it again" others because I liked the movie. Even the worst BDs are much better then the DVDs so for me it is a no brainer, if I liked the movie enough to want to watch it again and I have the DVD I will still buy and replace it with the BD. On the other hand if it is a title I am not interested in (re-)watching then no matter the PQ or AQ I won't buy it.

Absolutely! If I want something because it looks good, I buy a piece of art or other decoration. If I want something that sounds good, I buy a CD of the band. I buy movies because of the story, plain and simple. And as was mentioned earlier, the movie also must have replay value. If not, it comes to me via Blockbuster Online (unless I can buy it for a steal).
