Default New PS3 controller fo rFPS

Quote:

First person shooters are popular on pretty much every platform, but PC gamers have always claimed that the mouse and keyboard combination are ideal for the FPS gaming control scheme. Having played the games on both the PC and consoles I would tend to agree.

A new peripheral for the PS3 is being released in ninety days that’ll allow console gamers to achieve a slice of that pinpoint accuracy. It’s actually two controllers, and unfortunately for any lefties it’s obviously designed only for right handed gamers as the buttons on the mouse are located on the left side for easy thumb access. The other controller is a bit like a Wiimote, with its own analog stick and d-pad.

I don't really know what to think of it... I may pick it up if it gets good reviews.

I don't know... Is this the new controller that Sony was working on? I remember hearing something about Sony working on a new controller.

Probably not from Sony. It's got a USB dongle in the picture, any Sony controller would use bluetooth. It sounds a lot like the Splitfish FragFX, hopefully this new controller is better.

If it was a Sony controller, it wouldn't have a USB dongle. It would tie in with the Blutooth directly.

Since it does have a USB dongle, this will probably be for both PS3 and 360.

Personally, I came from PC gaming with mouse and keyboard for FPS games. I originally found the PS3 controller to be awkward for FPS. But with practice, I actually prefer it, and I'm just as deadly with either now. So this controller wouldn't interest me.

I prefer ps3 controller so this wouldn't interest me either for the ps3. But if I can connect this to my pc then I'd like to try this for pc fps's. I really don't like the keyboard mouse combo. There's always the age old argument that fps were made for keyboard and mouse. But the keyboard wasn't made for gaming. Its for typing. Something about plopping my hand down amidst a bunch of random letter keys to game does not appeal to me.

sony was supposedly working on something called a break away controller or something. As mentioned this has the USB thing so it isn't sony...

I wouldn't use this thing. It's a cool idea, but I bought a USB controller for my computer when I played FF7 on there. (I was having memory card problems and needed a fix.)

I would only buy an official sony controller. But this one has me intrigued. The only problem is that its for a desk.

The reason why consoles didn't go this route in the first place is because its a living room machine, not for a desk. You could go rollerball but that would have a different feel and still need a flat surface ideally.

I don't even like the Wii controller for the reason that you need to lean forward to wave your arms around. So its not really an easy solution to overcome for consoles.
