Default Issues I see with BD cases

I've noticed BD (and HDDVD) cases seem to break, or chip easily... Anyone notice this? Also, releases like Firefly, with the flyleaf/discs in the center - those seems to chip way easy as well. Worst part is, some cases are chipped before I open them. I try to slightly shake the case before I buy the movie to feel if any areas seem to be chipped - like the teeth that holds the disc in place. Standard DVDs did this a whole lot less.

Also, Bluray (obviously) went with blue cases (HD red)... But I hope in the future more movies go with a tone that mimics the cover art (like Incredible Hulk). I'm assuming LOTR will go with Red/Blue/Green.

Since the LOTR movies are coming from WB/NL if they aren't put in digibooks they will be normal blu cases. Universal is the only one that is doing the different color cases. I don't see that catching on. The point of the blu cases is suppose to make them stand out from the standard dvd versions.

Though I agree about making BDs stand out, I would think the size is enough to make that happen. But I'd also be willing to bet Peter Jackson sees to it that the LOTR releases are R/G/B... It's part of it's brand awareness.

I've also noticed Best Buy (locally) has expanded their BD section to two aisles now. Nice...

My bestbuy by me has added more shelves to the section that they have set up for blu. Its a small section, only about have an aisle, but each section has 5 or 6 shelves and they are packed end to end. Before long they are going to have to expand and give blu more aisle space.

I would think the size is a bigger standout point then just the color vs. DVD's

that being said I would also like to see different color schemes

I wouldn't mind seeing clear cases, al la the PS3 game case.

The "Elite" brand cases are the ones that are very prone to breaking. I've encountered many of these. Too bad you can't buy those for replacements. Sleevetown.com only carries the ones with the latch.

I have noticed, though, that the new "Elite" style is better. The one with the smaller BD logo on the front appears to have a sturdier hub on the inside.

Have they stopped placing the security sticker over the BD logo in most cases?

I agree the ps3 cases hold up a heck of a lot better than the bd ones.

Again, sometimes they come straight from the store chipped/damaged. I just never had that happen too often with SD.

I still see this on various titles. The case I'm referring to with the small logo, the sticker doesn't peel that off. Just on the ones with the larger logo.

Also, LionsGate did not put a bottom sticker on Saw V. Hopefully they've finally stopped doing that for future releases.

Drop it once, the corners chip very easily

All the broken ones Ive had were broken on the corners. I never noticed it when I bought them. Luckily I scooped up 15 Hancock preview discs to replace broken cases at my Best Buy.

I was making a joke people; I know how sensitive these cases are. Thankfully I've never had any problems yet.

Off topic, but as for LOTR being R/G/B as part of "brand awareness" I have to say that I've never noticed that before..... I don't own the DVDs (nor have I seen one in its entirety) but I've spent my fair share of time in the DVD aisles..... I'm guessing only those who are already fans of those movies would even expect the cases to be colored.
