Im looking to buy one of the two, I wanted to know if anyone who owns either can give me advice,
or anyone who has had 7.1 can say if its really worth it to spend extra on the reciever and 2 extra speakers and considering the small amount of 7.1 content Thoses obviously are the cons, I need some pros or reasons to buy 7.1 and if anyones got either for sale let me know, im leaning towards the 463 but ill take either, THANKS |

I good 5.1 system will always sound better than a bad 7.1 system.
If you have the proper room to set-up a 7.1, than go for it. How large is your room? Do you have proper space behind the listening position in order to properly have rear surround? I don't. I run a 5.1 system that sounds spectacular. There would be no way that a 7.1 system would sound better in my room than a 5.1 system. Is a 7.1 system going to force you to buy cheaper speakers in order to get 2 extra channels? What kind of price are you getting these for? The new X65 models are out and someone on this forum picked up the 465 from Newegg for $279 shipped. |

I personally like 7.1.
Iam the type of person that likes to matrix my music and use mt b-surrounds.so 7.1 is worth it to me and it`s nice to have that option then not have it at all ![]() These receivers both need a blu-ray player to decode internally to get HD audio. I would be looking at a reciever that does the decoding(you might want to look into this).but that's me. There is a lot of 7.1 movies.Almost every lions-gate movie(blu-ray)that has been coming out is in 7.1 and there will be more to come.If you get the 5.1 you will never get to experience that. You get more watts per channel with the 5.1 and less with the 7.1,but i would still go with the 563. http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/p...l?CNTID=567576 http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/p...l?CNTID=567575 Last edited by ozzman; 04-08-2009 at 01:34 PM. |

It's a great receiver for $500...it gets use the TrueHD and DTS-MA codecs and decodes the audio for a 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 setups. I have the RX-V863(great receiver for the money) which does the same...with a little more oomph and an additional HDMI but now you are swimming in waters deeper than $500.
Happy hunting! |

This decision shouldn't just be based on the merits of 5.1 vs 7.1, but you should consider sound quality as well. Yamaha, Onkyo, Pioneer, and every other company improve the quality of components and sound as you move up the product line. Better DACs, power supplies, filtration, etc are included, and that all leads to better sound quality. While the 463 and 563 sound good for the money, they don't sound as good as the 663, 863, or 1800. Bottom line, if you like the 463 or 563, buy the best one that fits your budget. Don't skimp on the heart of your system, because the receiver is a big influencer on the sound quality and overall surround experience. |
