Default What Home Theater System To Buy

I need help I have never bought a Home Theater System
I just got a Samsung 46" 650 TV and I need to get a Home Theater System to go with it I also need to get a Blue-Ray DVD player to go with it too.
I don't know if I should buy a system out of 1 box or buy a receiver and then speakers,blue-ray?
The room size 12' x 17'
I can spend around and up too $800

you are better off buying a receiver and speakers seperate. The HTIB are not very good.

tntkain is right , get A receiver & you're two fronts . Than add the rest when you can ! you will be happier in the long run ! If you shop right you should be able to get A BD player too !

There is absolutley nothing wrong with a(n) HTIB. YOu're flat out wrong. Can you do better with a bigger budget? Of course you can. But to say HTIB are not very good is a flat out lie.

While HTIB aren't bad, compared to a separate receiver and separate speakers they don't perform as good and don't offer much value. Most HTIB are limited in inputs. For $800 you can get an Onkyo 605 and a set of Polk speakers and it will sound better then almost every HTIB out there. Plus it will give you the lossless audio from your Blu-rays.

OP: HTIB = Home theater in a box, in case you were wondering*

he said $800 is his budget, that will be enough for a good receiver and a couple of speakers, or a good receiver and a speaker package..which he can later use some of the speakers as rears for a 7.1 setup. Or move them to another room, overall a better value then a HTIB imo. HTIBs good if your budget is under $400 imo. And i don't think HTIB are crap, i had a sony amp/speaker package that served me well for 4 years.

I agree with you too. Some people just bash things because they never owned one or had problems with them. Like everything.. there are crappy HTIB and there are good HTIB.
