Refurbished speakers are a good way to go. You could always piece together a nice stereo setup first and then add speakers later on if you'd prefer but otherwise, the Polk system is a good starter system.

I would guess that with speakers, the woofers and tweeters and maybe even the x-over network may have been replaced brand new. If a speaker was blown, I highly doubt a company who mass produces speakers would spend the time or labor to re-cone it, so swapping out with new would make more sense, therefore you practically getting a new speaker!

definitely go refurb as long as it is from the company or very respectable store, i got a polk psw1000 sub for 300.00 and it rocks and the harman audio auctions on ebay are very safe and awesome deals some of my JBL studio series came from there and plays as good as the rest.

Refurbs are great as stated above, they have new components that the new ones you buy might not. Say there is a X-over problem, you know the refurbed ones have had the problem addressed. Pull the trigger, 140.00 shipped, you can't beat that!

With the exception of my sub, all the polks in my sig are refurbs from polk audio's ebay store. The work perfectly and carry the polk warrantee.

Blu that sounds like a great deal. I see nothing wrong with a refurb speaker, especially if it is warranted by the manufacturer itself. This eliminates any "he said she said".

Polk has a solid reputation and they are willing to stand behind the product. Go for it.
