Default Yamaha Refurbished receivers

http://cgi.ebay.com/YAMAHA-HTR-6140-...item4a9b9ef1ea

Has anyone had any experience with refurbished receivers, I found this one and was just wondering cause I dont want to mess with something that is going to give me headaches, I always stay away from refurbished...or used electronics at that but was just curious.

also can anyone tell me if this Yamaha 6140 is any good, the reviews seemed good for it

a lot of fellow polk heads have bought the same speakers from the same lady

check the 1st polk in the polk speakers thread

i would NEVER buy a refurbished item from another person though.
only thru the manufactor of the item i was buying AND i have to have a warranty to buy refurbished stuff

so he has refurbished speakers that he has to get rid of.
what about the warranty?

i dont trust people when they have a story as to why they dont need the speakers (in this case he is moving and cant take them......SURE YOU CAN TAKE THEM!!!)

id only buy refurbished from a dealer (factory dealer preferably) and get the warranty

good luck

ok I just got a reply back stating he bought it from B-Stock about 5 months ago and cant wire the new apartment with current setup which also includes another auction for Bose speakers, so I don't think he's trying to rip anybody off

but still thinking of getting a new one just to make me feel better

I bought a B stock HTR-6240 about 6 months ago off ebay for $229. It's been great. As long as it has a warranty, I see no problem with a refurb or B stock.

I will never buy REFURB ever again. I bought my first and last refurb from E-Cost.com about a year and a half ago. It was an Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver and it came out to be defective. I had to send it back and got a full refund. Then i went to FRY's and bought the same receiver new for a few dollars more....it has worked flawlessly from day one.

Refurb with a warrantly should be fine. Ideally, you want to be the original purchaser though, since some warranties are not transferrable.

Considering it's a B-Stock receiver, and being sold pre-owned, I would wait. B Stock Yamaha receivers can be found fairly often. Plus, you can often find better models than the 6140 for around the same price or a little more.

If you can swing a little more $$$ you can still by the Yamaha RX-V663 receiver, which has a better amp and power supply than the current RX-V665, and it also decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD MA. Here it is for only $329.

I run audio and video via HDMI through my Yamaha receiver. It offers the best connection, and it looks and sounds fantastic.

Why would you not use HDMI if it's available to you?

I was just making sure it would still give me great picture, and if you think the other receiver is that much better I will get it, I want to get something good and not have to buy something else cause I'm not happy with it

Default yamaha rx-v465

ok so whats the opinion on this receiver, is it better than the rxv665, it has 4 HDMI inputs and appears to have Dobly TruHD......which is the best right?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Yamaha+-...iver&cp=1&lp=4

cause if it does then $329.99 seems pretty good

I have the RXV465 mentioned above and I have been happy with it. No complaints. Not high-end stuff of the Yamaha range, but enough for me since the room I use for viewing and listening to music is small and the receiver can handle the lossless audio formats.

Hi I am new here so this is the only way to ask this about my yamaha ht5250
I am going to replace my old rear projection sony 46 hdtv with a LCD 1080p and will be buying a blu ray player, I know this is an old reciever but will replace it later on when money permits.
My question is if I hook up a blu ray player via the optical output will I get 5.1 sound dd or dts? That is good enough sound for me for now. I have tried reading here and there and nothing seems to be clear on the subject.

thank you in advance
