I want to upgrade my dvd player on my HP laptop to a blu-ray player/burner; can you suggest a product?

Here's a sample of blu-ray drives from this website: https://www.blu-ray.com/drives/

Yes, no problem. I have a HP laptop myself with a BD-burner in it. Unfortunately, not all drives are the same or compatible (hardware/software-wise), mainly because HP (and many other OEM's) use their 'own' architecture. Most drives have their connector on the side, while HP have it in the middle and not all drivers/firmware are compatible to some of the 'HP software programs' running on your laptop. HP (and others) like it when you buy 'their' product. Luckily, they sell one . On HP's website you should be able to find the product-number of this BD-burner (I will look mine up for you, if you like, I think their is only 1 at the moment). To prevent any issues, my 1st suggestion would be buying this drive with one of their resellers. Or, secondly, on eBay and the likes.

The drive I mentioned here above, happens to be manufactured by Panasonic. This would be my 3rd suggestion (option), because it is cheaper if you buy the respective Panasonic drive-model (again, if you like, I can look up this number for you as well) and also buy a seperate adaptor-kit (3 small pieces of hardware with a few screws) on eBay, etc. Make sure though that you have the firmware with it (or download it somewhere).

A 4th possibility would be any other drive, but besides the hardware-issue mentioned with the 3rd option, you also risk software compatibility issues. I would not suggest this, but hey, who am I?

Don't forget to check what 'bay' your laptop uses, is it Multibay-II (9.5 mm heigh), is it the 12.5mm high bay (I think that's bay-I), or something else?

Anyway, let me know if you would like further info; good luck
