Default What is up with movies like kate and Leopold, The Illusionist and others like them?

These have been released in other countries, when are we getting them???

And in some countries, single versions of trilogies like Bourne and Matrix have been released but here in the US we only have the box set option (well, Matrix has part 1 available in a book, but I prefer discs in a BD case). What gives???

Probably it's mostly a matter of who owns the rights, and how well they expect the titles to do in the local market.

A film like Roman Polanski's Pirates might not sell very well in the U.S., but apparently it was deemed worth releasing in blu-ray in France....

I think they have that now:

Oh jeez... they raised the price of the digibook from $13.99 to $19.99.

Yup. Well, at least they have the Bourne series out individually now, I think the Matrix only has part 1 out by itself, no word on a date for parts 2 and 3 yet as far as I know. I wish they didn't do the Bourne ones on the flipper discs though, not too crazy about those. I'll wait another year or so, see if they "go away" lol (wishful thinking, I know).

Still patiently waiting on the illusionist and kate & leopold...

More interested in The Pianist and Big Lebowski than anything mentioned so far. Dunno if those are available in other countries but since they were available on HD DVD one would hope there would be an effort to produce BDs.

I guess that can fall in the same group of movies intended by this thread...sure, why not. In fact, wasn't the illusionist and kate & leopold out on HD DVD first? If so, I wonder if that has anything to do with their delayed release here in the US on blu ray...? Eh, BluBonnets is probably right, most likely something to do with rights to the movie or distribution or something like that. Shame..

FYI: the pianist is out in 3 countries so far: UK, France and Canada. You can import the Canadian version if you don't mind imports, it's listed as Region A.

I would have already bought it, but the transfer and BD production quality are apparently not up to par (1080i and no extras included).

Kate & Leopold is a movie I would love to own, I'd even be tempted to break my $20 rule to get it.

FINALLY Kate & Leopold is coming, hope it hits for about $10, even though it is one of my all-time favourites.
