Default Sony BDPS-350 - firmware update

Hey. New here. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a Sony BDP S-350 player. Has been working great, but will not read Eagle Eye. Checked firmware, and I have 7.1.007.

A direct ethernet connection is very inconvenient (major hassle to run the cable). So I opted for the update disc. I downloaded the .exe file, which produced a .iso file. I confirmed the file was the correct size per Sony's website, so the download seems to be clean.

I used Astroburn to burn the image to a CD-R, and that also seemed successful. But my player will not read it. I tried twice, no luck. The only potential problem I see is that Astroburn didn't seem to give me an option to 'finalize' the burn, which Sony's site recommended. I wonder if this might be the problem.

Sony's online chat support was weak.

Anybody have an idea? Or know how to finalize the burn with Astroburn? Or can recommend a different image burning software?

does your computer have a built-in image writing software or is astroburn all you have?

i have a toshiba laptop and it had Toshiba disc creator on it, i would assume other brands would have some sort of program also.

you would probably see it when u right click the .iso file

thats how i made my update disc

if that doesnt work i would try just bringing ur s350 to ur router

unless someone else has an idea

Hi, welcome to the forum.
You're saying that you comfirmed the update by checking system settings, system information, software version and it still displayed: 7.1.007

Did you use a CD-R disc? If not burn another image file but to a CD-R disc and try updating the player again.

If the update was successful the last three digits of the software version should be 010.

Download/install DVD Decrypter.

Place a blank cd in the drive.

Open dvd decrypter, go to:

Mode -> ISO -> Write

...select the firmware location.

...Then Burn.

All done. Easy as pie. Pop into your bd player and update.

Thanks for all the replies.

My PC was built from scratch, so it didn't have any built-in burning software.

The firmware version I already had was 7.1.007, and the firmware update version seemed to be newer. And yes, I did use CD-R discs (as much as I wanted to use CD-RW... I'm just cheap that way ). When I loaded the disc into the player, it just said it was unable to read it.

DVD Decrypter, eh? I'll give that a try

Wombat,

I was able to update my 350 to firmware version .010 with a CD image written from Roxio Creator DE on my Windows Vista desktop system. Worked right off the bat. Also used the same CD in a friend's 350 as well.

Incidentally, I burned the image file onto a Memorex brand CD-R disc.

Perhaps you can try a different disc brand than the one you used.

The burn with DVD Decrypter worked. There was much rejoicing.

Yep, it's also been announced in the official Sony S350 owner's discussion thread.

I already updated my S350 and it works fine, no issues at all.

Hey guys, Sorry for bringing this post back to life.

I would like to update the firmware on my S350 to .015. Problem is I cannot open to the .exe file on my Mac to create the .ISO file needed the transfer to my player. I've looked up a few ways for opening .exe files on a Mac but because this file does not appear to be a "stuffed" or "zipped" file I can do nothing with it.

Any chance any of you geniuses have created or found a .dmg file of this up date or have an solutions?

Thank you for your time.

Btw, you can also use a CD-RW. I use that all the time for updating my players. Even if the manual state it doesn't work. it work just fine and save of scrapping lot's of CDR in the year just ofr a 40 meg files

Off course the 'Plugged Internet directly' method is even easier..

Call Sony at 1 800 222 7669 and order the upgrade .015 disc. Its free and will arrive in the mail in about 5 days. ONE PROBLEM and it is that this upgrade will only maybe help your problem with Eagle Eye. I have had the same problem with my BDPS350 not wanting to recognize some movies and freezing up on others and my player is 6 months old. I called them 5 times and got no help from Sony Technical Support at all. After installing the firmware upgrade I have found that if you want to watch a movie that gives you problems take the disc out and turn the machine off, unplug it from the A/C outlet and at the same time doing the same to your HDMI cable if you use that. Power back up and almost always this will work or at least it has for me. The real problem lies in the companies that make the disk because they are putting to much information on these new disk that are coming out such as BD Live, Special features, Bonus View etc.. This player will play all of the new disc available coming out of hollywood but expect some problems with some of them just as it says on alot of movies before the feature starts and that is BLU RAY IS A NEW FORMAT AND THAT ALL OF THE FEATURES MAY NOT WORK ON YOURS!!!!!!!!!The engineer at SONY SAID TO THE LAST TECHNICAL SUPPORT PERSON I SPOKE WITH SAYS THAT UNTIL ALL OF THE COMPANIES AGREE ON A STANDARDIZED FORMAT FOR THE DISC ITSELF YOU CAN EXPECT THIS PROBLEM TO BE ONGOING. I am pissed off because we all spent alot of hard earned cash for the ultimate Home theatre experience and this is what we have to put up with until they finally decide to stop jerking around with all of these damn features that dont belong on the disc that causes our players to act eratic. Sorry if I depressed you but give what I said earlier a try and GOOD LUCK.

An easier way could have been to take the player near the cable and run the update.

Sony's online chat support was weak.

Anybody have an idea? Or know how to finalize the burn with Astroburn? Or can recommend a different image burning software?
Eagle Eye works perfectly with my S350 even before the .015 update. You should not have any problems with it. If you are having trouble upgrading through the internet, just call Sony for a CD. I got mine in 3 days!
