Default Should i switch to a HTR 5990

im currently using an Onkyo 605, and my dad upgraded his htr 5990 to an rx 1800, and im wondering if it would be worth it to swap out the receivers. Im slightly worried about under powering my new rti10's with the 605 and the 5990 has 120 wpc so i think that be alot better in that dept. The only thing im worried about is my HD audio's. The 5990 has HDMI 1.1 but will only accept 5.1 over HDMI. (which is fine for me i only have 5.1) but some blu-rays (like lions-gate) has 7.1 PCM. Will it just recognize 5.1 or will it not recognize it at all? i guess it would be helpful if someone here has/had this receiver.

specs just for the hell of it;
